More horses, who's got em?

I'm seriously thinking of heading out for battle again on a Superduke R. This time though, I'd love to have more hp. Is 20 too much to ask? Have any of you ever gotten your Superduke into the high 130s? Should be possible I think. These motors are so mildly built. By the way, we have to stay at 999cc. That's the only bitch. Anyone?

im still trying to get into the 120s

You should PM MrZ32 he is looking at getting 130HP out of his SD its not the R model. He has got 121hp at the rear wheel at the moment and has some good idea's on pumping out 130hp.
There are some horses to be found in the ignition curve. That is basically where James and I started out. If it is for racing I'm confident I can get a few extra horses out the SD.
Compression needs up.
Gasflow ports, get valve seats set on almost knife edge.
keep the cam profile and machine the lobe for a bit more lift.
Set cam timing
Superfinish the engine for quicker response.
Dyno with Tuneecu to get most out of ignition advance and fuel.

If money is no issue convert to dual lenght velocity stacks and injectors over stacks. The second butterfly motor can be used to lift the velocity stack up and down following RPM.
Hey Guy, So is MrZ doing all that stuff or Just using Your map slightly moded with dual stacks? Or all the other stuff you mentioned as well ?
Im keen to see the Dual stacks.
Ever talk to Raf Bonifay at 2RT don't know what his are doing for HP but he's been racing em for a while now, and his cam's look good , albeit on the pricey side, could be a few more ponies to be had,,,

Oh that's good to hear, someone gaining so much power. While it would be great to have that power, 155hp, amazingly we would still be at a disadvantage in the twins classes. But for F1, holy hell we'd be in good shape. Our budget is my budget, and it is definitely not unlimited. In fact it's likely more limited than most. So 155hp, which I am sure is a pricey number, is not a reasonable goal for me. But I think 130s may (hopefully) be. I'll start chasing down these leads. Thanks guys

I don't know what F1 rules are but if you look in german sites you could find something nice GW racing i.e. has interesting high compression pistons (CP Pistons made near you) and camshafts. Someone already told you about 2RTeam (also none as Raf#83 in this forum) and Mothooligan has quality proven airbox. Personally I'm trying to mix 2RTeam camshafts and MH airbox. For head porting I think I'll ask to ABP racing (Germany) they seem professionals. I hope to gain at least 15HP but it's difficult because I still have to find a good "mapper"!!

Sls

P.S. GoGo very nice logo. I like it very much. A patch for my race suite should be great!
F1 rules are easy - just don't go over 1000cc with a twin. It's an old class. Basically you can run up to 750cc inline 4s, 500cc two strokes, 1000cc twins. As far as chassis mods, motor mods etc., sky is the limit - just stick to cc limits for your bike. You could basically run a YZR500 against Bayliss's world superbike, and get flanked by someone on the last Suzuki Fred Merkel ever raced. Of course, that would be ridiculous. Kind of like racing a stock Superduke R against a superbike spec 1198R.

....wait a minute
Desmosedici!!!!
I reckon it must be possible to get high 130s with modest money. Mine chugs out 132 at the wheel and is only running with Dyno PCIII, MotoBox, 2ndry flies and Akra race cans.

Stick the Titanium headers on it, lighten it up a wee bit, change some engine internals and map it for racing (mine is just mapped for smoothness and all round power/rideability rather than all out HP.
btw... when i was on 121whp that was with the bog stock akra map.

I now have had a run make 129whp with my map.. and with the velocity stacks to come am expecting to break 130. But the stacks are more designed to boost mid range.

but i have a few ideas that i could help you with go go.
TuneECU will be a godsend for you guys as well. I'd def have your tuner look at that. Leaves PCIII in it's wake.
gogo, what fuel can you run? Im sure that with tune ecu that you could utilize race fuel... run like a 107 octane with a shed load of advance. i see no reason with that, pipes and a motobox that you couldnt break 140whp with an SDR

also, how many laps are in a race? as there is probably around 2 liters of space under the seat area... i believe you could modify the sas system plugged up to the airbox to run some sort of methanol/water fogger straight down the inlet via mounting in the air box... have it running off the tps voltage... higher voltage, higher flow

I would also be happy to share some ideas with you with regards to my dual velocity stack design and also the ability to modify the stock stack too (to be more efficient) as in 10 to 15% boost in mid range...

would be happy to bounce some ideas off with you my email is [email protected]

wait until about 4 years from now as i am already designing a rotory valve head (based of the bishop rotory valve)... the idea was banned in F1 as it was too effective, look it up guys, i plan on making this

yes.. exactly that shade. except that my design runs directly off of the cam chain (working with what i already have)

and i have got hold of a thesis paper (by a bloke at the sydney university) done on the design and ways around the issues involved with the bishop rotory valve.

why shade... like the sound of this?

once around my main issue of how to keep oil pressure in the head without it burning like a mofo

and also once im earning enough to get it fabricated... it will happen

dont see why it couldnt be fitted to other lc derived engines one make either
Always interested in orsm engineering mate

My interest is not very well backed up by engineering education but i can never pass something like this by without taking the lid off to see how it works.
You guys are genius. That's one of the reasons I love running this bike. Makes you think outside the box.

We can use any fuel we like. Our typical races are only eight laps - fifteen minutes. Heat is a problem at one of the tracks though, it gets like 105 in the shade - and it's a flat out high speed grueling type of track. Overheating is an issue for everyone with motorwork.

I like these ideas. Time to chase money..

you can also get cams etc from 2rt but if you are on a budget.. not so great and you will be having to rebuild the engine much more often

i can also send you a design to improve the efficieny of the stock velocity stack if you would like... as in 2-3% boost in efficiency just by improving the lip design of the stack with a bith of fibre-glass bog

Speak with Chris at X-Bikes.

He was THE man for KTM tuning and knows the LC8 engine inside out, plus he spanners for an MV Augusta race outfit. He is all about tuing, pipes, airboxes, flowed heads, cam profiles, etc...

I'd have thought a few more horses out of an SDR would be relatively simple. Mine cranks out 131 at the wheel just with Akra, PC111 and Motohoologan Airbox.
The swingarm brace was a great improvement. Dannyboy's creation, he gets all the credit. He bent the pieces at his shop, then had the welding done by his buddy John Starks in Manteca Ca. One of the braces needs to be off-set (which is typical of any swingarm) because of the chain. Other than that you can see what went on from the pictures.

The RC8R is there at TriValleyMoto for the taking. I'm just not taking it. I've been around long enough to know what it would take to run that bike properly. The means are simply not there at TriValley, nor are they there in my bank account. Running that RC8R at the last round was eye opening. I got passed SOONER down the front straight than we got passed on the SDR. After two seasons running the SDR, we got along pretty good. My initial drive came far sooner than on the RC8R. The RC8R was foreign to me. And while we did lap faster on it, it just wasn't as fulfilling. The bike felt vague. For sure it's because we were not even close on set-up. I know that. Plus it had stock exhaust, and stock footpegs, and stock bodywork in places - and then there was our crew leaving the triple clamps loose for the race... The whole thing was a huge compromise, put together in a last minute dash to save the season after our SDR got pummeled trying not to kill the fallen rider from the previous round. Running the RC8R like that really painted a clear picture of just what it would take to get it to the same place we had already gotten on our SDR. It's a lot of time and it's a lot of money. Plus we wouldn't just run one class. It fits Open Twins how it comes, but on the RC8R our second class would be Formula Pacific. And Formula Pacific in the AFM is to club racing what MotoGP is to AMA Superbike. It's pretty fantastic, competitive as hell, and it's NOT a place for stock bikes - which is basically what our RC8R would be with no budget. Top runners in Formula Pacific have 200+ hp. A stock RC8R would be out of the top five consistently. What's the point in that..? If we run the SDR again, we are underdogs in Open Twins (which I kind of prefer) but we are competitive, and we are also actually competitive in Formula 1, and 750 Superbike (if we find another 20hp). Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like 20hp will be easier to find on an SDR that's already built, than 40hp will on an RC8R that still needs to be built.

It's all a matter of budget. Hell right now we don't even have the budget to run the SDR, never mind the RC8R. But I'm working on stuff in the background.. Fingers crossed something will click
