This should just about slip into Hooliganism!
I knew my bike had a crack on the welding of the exhaust header but it wasn't until I took it off (after a lot of sweat and grazed knuckles) that I discovered that the front header flange had sheared right off. The photo is actually Buzz's who had the exact same problem.
The ring on the rear stub had also come off. I got it all welded and got the headers aqua blasted for £45 at a local engineering works I found. Then after being screwed to the tune of £45 for a few new OEM gaskets, nuts bolts and clamps I put it all back together. I gave the bike the best clean its ever had judging by the amount of accumulated crud and lack of winter washing by the PO. Its looking almost respectable now but there's still a lot of corrosion on fasteners etc.
Anyway, I took it out for a quick test run this morning as the roads were dry. What a transformation! No more banging and popping, the bottom end pick up is brilliant - I had become a little disappointed with it, but now 2nd gear wheelies off the throttle are back on the menu. I do draw the line at acting like a tit in built-up areas so I had to rein it in a bit but a proper test run is on the cards...
