So...

I'm at work so super short version:

My gauges were flickering last night, bike shut off with inconsistent RPM while idling, three times now..

Noticed the speedo was showing 9-15MPH while at a stop...

Bike was rained on a few times.. Grey connector?...

What should I look for?

thanks!
rectifier / regulator i'm betting. Very common problem on these.
07+ gauges are known to shit themselves a hell of a lot more often than 05/06 gauges - which are yours?
my gauge went mental, revs read 6000 at stand still then went blank. was replaced under warranty. hope yours are ok and not in need of replacement if the warranty is out. 07 mine
It is a 2008 SDR. Only 3500mi... No warranty I do not believe.

Last thing I need is gauges to go out... bike is main transport at the moment. At least I have a moped as backup transportation...

How much are gauges?
Y clocks went blank earlier this week after a lot of wet riding. I lowered the mask, disconnected them and left it a day to dry out. Re connected it and all is well now. Although this does sound slightly different to your problem.

Dropped the front headlight, unplugged headlight connector and there was a small bit of corrosion in there. Some blue/white on the connector male end of things.. not sure how to get that off in such a small and tight space.

Gauges aren't fogged at all actually, and this problem showed up a day or two after it was rained upon...

Try some stuff called Caig DeOxit. I used it on my 2008 Subaru to eliminate corrosison in a pin connector that was making my thermometer read incorrectly. I tried several products, but this stuff worked. It took about 2 weeks to soak in and work 100%, but if your corrosion is less severe it will probably fix it immediately.
