My Oil Leak :(

Well i had my optimistic head on this morning thinking that it had dried up and gone away but no such luck

Apparently its coming from some push rod linkage the bike is unsafe to ride and to top it off i made a mistake and its 2 weeks out of warrenty great.

Parts have been ordered its a big job to fix as the clutch has got to be taken out and gaskets & seals replaced seeing as this is the 1st time my Superduke has let me down ill let it off
but with under 2,000 miles on the clock and light usage its annoyed me a bit.

Bonus is i get to keep the ER6 for a bit hopefully bike should be all done by next Tuesday fingers crossed and my wallet will be several hundred pounds lighter

Laters Dan
the slave cylinder pushrod?

is it leaking on the left, or right hand side of the bike? if LHS then it's a very easy job to fix - I did mine myself, if you're lucky and it's just the pushrod seal then it's only about a £3.50 part, and the clutch doesn't need to be taken out at all. At worst, the cover needs to come off, but the clutch pack can stay where it is
Thanks for the info Samba i will query it when i talk to them again
I should have listened more but yep im sure its the slave cylinder push rod hopefully its just the seal
Oil runs down the back of the side stand so im 99% sure the leak is from the left hand side
They gave me a rough estimate of 3 hours labour + Parts to do = quite an expensive job at worst then if just clutch cover ill just need a gasket & seal i suppose if only i had the skills to do it
myself

Cheers Dan
someone local might be able to help you out. unless it's something worse than what I suspect, it sure as hell isn't anywhere near as expensive or time-consuming as they're saying!
If it is the left hand side push rod seal, it is only necessary to remove the slave cylinder, hook out the seal (easier if you remove right hand side clutch cover and pull back the push rod)and push in a new one - I understand that there is a KTM tool to ensure correct alignment and depth and perhaps the need to glue the seal in - talk to Paul (ex-Bracken - 020 7232 1814) if you need help or want someone to do it for you - it is certainly not a three hour job, etc - I have a spare seal if you need it in a hurry and I'm due south of you in Kent but commute into London (past Paul's workshop just off the Old Kent Road) every day.
The bike isnt in Lagunas, THE WORST DEALER IN THE WESTERN WORLD, by any chance is it?
If its the left hand side its the push rod seal as other have said, its a £3 bearing and an hours labour tops (ive done mine twice now - my first attempt didnt seal correctly) and both times it was a 30 min job!

It just slowly drips past the seal on the push rod, comes out from behind the clutch master cylinder then runs down the sidestand. Its hardly dangerous and i rode mine for ages before bothering to fix it
I've not had to do mine but I'm not surprised to hear that Laguna might be overstating the work and hours.

If they reckon they've already started work on it then I guess you'll have to argue the costs with them but if they haven't then either you argue their quotation and agree a better price or then get it out of there and take it somewhere else.

I wish I could guarantee I'd have some spare time as I'd be happy to get the low down from Ash and come and help you do it but I just don't know how long it'll be before I could help.
I see you are having a big service done, could this job be 'overquoted' to make the service bill look lower?

2 weeks out of warranty and 2000 miles, if the bike's got full KTM service history I'd be looking to KTM for payment.
Thanks all for the replys its given me alot to think about.
I'm going to confirm what parts they have ordered & time it will take them on Monday as the work probably won't be started until tuesday or Wednesday if I'm not happy with the answers I'm getting I won't have the work done.

The service was just a nice to have done while the leak was being fixed although perhaps a little overdue in time it certainly isn't in miles I'm surprised it takes 2and a half hours as well.

Thanks for the offers of help and advice not sure why I didn't ask here before I decided to get the work done.

One final thing I hope someone can clear up for me might seem a bit dumb but I thought I had an oil leak but am I right in assuming it is a brake fluid leak if it's coming from the slave cylinder.

Thanks again Dan
If it is coming from the slave cylinder it is mineral oil, not brake fluid. No worrys about stripping paintwork of giving slugs cancer or owt.

Officially you should use Magura Blood but baby oil works just as well. I ran my 05 on babay oil when the slave cylinder was weepimg and whern it shit itself big time I thought ' Oh well, worked til now and filled the fooker with Johnson's baby oil. No problem at all except Ducati Pete got intoxicated by the smell and kept making improper advances to me at trackdays.

Seriously, fook Laguna, THE WORST DEALER IN THE WESTERN WORLD, off. Get the Gorillas at Port Lympne to to do job, anything is better than those fuckwit multifranchise fook up everymake keep no spares for nothing gormless shitwits not fit for Wanking dogs
If it's coming from the slave, it's clutch fluid not brake fluid, important difference 'cos they'te not the same, but the reservoir level would be falling if it were.
Are you certain its a leaking seal and you have not just over lubed the chain. I have a scott oiler fitted and when the temp changes it over oils giving me a drip down the side stand. jet wash the lot down and check to make sure its a seal and not anything a lot less simple. we all think the worst when you find something up, but its not always the worst case.
