Alright guys. I did about a 300 mile trip yesterday with the suburban machinery bars and this is what I think.
First of all the bars a more narrow than the standard bars. About 2" on each side more narrow. The feel of the bike was quite a bit different. More of a sportbike feel and less of a motord feel. I'd say the bars are about 3" more forward and about 3" down compared to stock. At full lock the bars do not touch the tank but it is very close. So close that at full lock you cannot get your hand between the tank and the grip. I thought this could pose a problem in tight quarter such as a parking lot but it was doable.
At highway speeds the bars felt very comfortable. Being alittle more leaned over seemed to make the wind hit me and not make me feel like I'm hanging on to the bike. In the twisties is where the bars really shined. More weight up front made for much better feel in the front end giving me more confidence. Hanging off the bike was alot easier and pushing the bike away came second nature due to the lower position of the bars. Slower corners required more input into the bars but not much. What really impressed me was that being more forward seemed to spread weight more evenly resulting in an even fatique in my body. My ass wasn't falling asleep like it normally does on long rides due to all my weight being back. So all in all I'm impressed with the bars. Money well spent in my opinion. We'll see how these bars do on the track next week. I'm guessing they will be tits....or the dogs dangles...or....I think they will work out well.
