I have an '07 SD, bought new in May '09 as a leftover model. It's been a roller-coaster ride, to say the least.
Let me first say that I love the bike. It's comfortable, has all the power I'll ever need, and has that indefinable fun factor. Definitely one of the best bikes I've owned or ridden.
Now the bad. When I took it in for its first 600-mile service, I discovered that there were four different recalls/service bulletins on it, which my selling dealer didn't perform before sale. I had to take it back twice to get all those fixed. I've also had three different oil leaks, an exhaust leak, and a couple of other warranty claims that I can't even remember anymore. All told, six warranty claims.
I live in Los Angeles, and went to a different dealer for the 5,000-mile service: Eric's in Pasadena. Finally he has sorted out all the issues, and now the bike is running and handling better than it has since purchase.
The only issue now is that the warranty is up in two weeks. Needless to say, I'm sincerely hoping that all the repair issues are behind me and that I can just ride and enjoy the SD for a while.
So to sum up, I'm happy I bought an SD. It's a blast to ride and there aren't a lot of them on the road, which I like. But at the same time, I've never had so many problems with a bike before.
