New Carbon lid time!

My old Icon lid is looking a tad tatty. Decided it was time for an upgrade. Headed off to Gorgeous Bikes on the Kings Road this morn as they are the only importers of Icon gear in the UK. Tried on a couple and although some of the full on graphic designs look cool they are a bit over the top for me. Decided to treat myself to a carbon helmet. Its soo fooking light. Plus its only £290 + £25 for a silver visor Picking it up next week as he only had the carbon in the white design and I want black

Icon makes a quality product. I have a few Alliance helmets, a jacket and pants and they have all held up very well. Thier Graphics are stupendous, though I run plain also. Nothing like a new lid, they either become the one to grab, or quicly get shuffle to the top, hard to reach, shelf.

Those ACU gold stickers are about 2 quid on ebay if you need one. My Arai's came from Tokyo with Snell rating, no problem as I can stick a gold sticker on it just as well as Phoenix Distribution could, not that any trackday has ever checked.

That IS a nice lid. How does it compare to the HJC carbon? They're nice too: I bought Tom one
I don't think Phoenix distribution can stick a gold sticker on an Arai for you as they are circling the drain right now. Apparently there is no Arai importer right now . . . . . .

Two SD/Rs in the Kings Road doesn't happen that often - beer/coffee next week when you pick up the lid?

I think these cheap 'carbon' helmets are all marketing bullshit. I'm fairly sure they're made of the exact same materials and through the same process, and then dressed in some carbon fiber for the look. Either that, or they found certain spots in the shell where they could use less of the conventional materials and substitute them with non-structural carbon fiber.


If you want the real deal, I think only two companies offer it: BMW (SportIntegral) and Arai (RX7-RC)... both CONSIDERABLY more expensive and exclusive than anything from Icon/HJC/KBC/etc etc. $3000+

Hey I'm guilty of having a "carbon" helmet too, don't get me wrong I like how they look. But I question the overall weight? How much lighter is it than the competing "normal" model?

Give them a bell. They can get any Icon lid in. Ask to speak to the owner though as the assistant is not quite so on the ball

Fine choice in lids, my friend picked one up last year and it truly is amazing looking in person. Hope it works well for you, just wait a little while before you actually test it

I haven't had a chance to get out and use it on a road ride. Not sure whether I'd be tempting fate by wearing it to Snetteton on Monday. Will take it along and see. My vanity might get the better of me though as it will look kick ass in the pics

Marushin 999rs goes in at 1100 grams, nice and lite....better for your neck when you make an unexpected hard stop, less weight means less force on the vertebrae...
