Hi guys,my first post. Question I have is I'm looking at buying a 2008 black/orange superduke online at a dealer, and looking at his posted photos, it has a silver swingarm instead of a black like most pictures of that year. Is there a differant color swingarm for the same year,or any other differances between them? I thought 07 had silver 08 were black. Dealer says for sure it's an 08, does this sound right?
That doesn't sound right. Have him take a pic of the vin sticker with the model year on it and send it to you so you can confirm.
Hi there.

From what I know, (I have an '07 from new), the '07 swingarm was indeed silver and the later models do have a black swingarm. Trouble is I can't remember exactly whether the black arm was introduced in '08 or later. The '09 model definitely did. But if it's a new bike, or even only a few miles on it, then really it doesn't matter, except cosmetically, because there are no other differences in the spec.whether it's an '08 or an '09 It's the same bike as an '07 really - there have only been two models and post '07 they are all the same.

It depends whether you are into the "black" look really. And if you are then go buy an R version because everything is black on those!
I remember running into the same issue when I was looking to buy a SD. My dealer had 2. both were 08 and both were silver. I did not buy either bike. Later, I bought one from another dealer, again a 08 with a black swingarm. So, whats the deal?? Maybe early production 08 still had silver?
My 2008 has a black swing arm. I bought it a year ago this February, new in the crate.
Orange 2008's had both silver and black swing arms.
The frame number includes the model year date towards the end. Year of registration is not necessarily the model year.

It only matters where there are model changes of course, but even if there weren't any that year, it will affect resale value with smart buyers, so pay for the model year, not the reg year.

If you are buying a standard SD; big model changes came in 07 (new headlight, tank, geometry, chassis part colours) smaller changes in paint, etc from 08, and again in 10.

If you are buying an SDR; big changes came in 08 with more power. Don't pay 08 money for an 07 SDR whatever the mileage.
the swingarm was changed from silver to black during 2008, so plenty of 2008 SDs will have a silver swingarm
