Newbie questions

Hi SD folks,

I just put a deposit on a black 07 in Canada. I didn't get a chance to try the bike so I have a few questions for you guys:

1) How bad is the wind protection? What would be the maximum speed at which you can go at in relative comfort wind-wise?

2) What kind of mileage (Km) can I expect to go between fillups?

3) Has anyone tried the "touring windscreen" from DirtBikeBook?

4) Does the bike have decent sound with stock cans? I like my bike to sound deep but not too loud.

5) Does the bike need a steering damper? What would be an affordable solution?

6) I read things about a remap for Akras, supplied with the slipons. Does the stock ignition allow for a remap?

Congrats man! I just got to try a superduke on Saturday and I'm hooked. The only question I can kinda answer is the wind protection and even there I am not a very good reference since I'm happy riding a SM bike. So for me the wind protection wasn't a problem at all when I tried it even a 160 km it didn't feel bad for me can't tel you more for higher speed since I didn't go there.

Got my SD yesterday, took off my seat and under there was the alarm but there is no toolkit is this correct? would have expected an allen key or something.
Also is the ktm alarm (the hardparts one)a datatool system 4 as that is the alarm they said they were going to fit, but i see no mention of datatool in the paperwork and that is the alarm i have told the insurance company is fitted?

I got a toolkit and suitcase of stuff with mine. Can go through it and list if you need.

Mine came with a very complete toolkit. Includes just about everything you need, including a bottle opener.

I got the ktm page with all the paper work,but no tools are they supposed to be under the seat?

The toolkit should be under the seat, it will fit in the compartment with the alarm, just. The KTM alarm is a META unit, which just plugs into the loom along with the seat switch and LED. This keeps the instalation and wiring neat. There is also a mounting bracket available for the KTM alarm, again keeping everything neat and tidy. The datatool is a good alarm, but your instalation won't be as neat and tidy as the KTM alarm.

My tools came in an orange (of course) bag along with all the paperwork. It fits under the seat, but in the states we have some emissions compliance crap under the seat so the tools are delivered with the bike. I believe they come under the seat in your part of the world. It is a kilo or so of tools - lots of good stuff as bfriend notes.

Don't know about your alarm question.

I'm still waiting for my toolkit, the dealer said it wasn't with the bike when it was delivered. And I had to wait 2 weeks for the book, I told a guy in the workshop and he just went into a storeroom and got me one... But I'm discovering that my dealer is generally full of shit...

I've got an alarm in there that I fitted myself and the toolkit goes on top of it without any problems.

I've lost my 8mm socket.

Sorry if that appears a bit of a random post guys. I wanted to share my sadness and sense of loss, but didn't think it deserved a thread of its own.

I have got the KTM Meta alarm fited ,and my tool kit just fits with a bit of fiddling to get it down the side of the alarm It proberley wood fit beter iff I took the plyers out of the tool kitt ,

but then it wood not be compleat , the best tool kit I have ever had as well that has come with a bike , but that just sase it all rearley being it is a KTM .

yea, great tool kit but WHERE'S THE DAMN C SPANNER???

gah....i can find one in any tool dealer round here for love nor money! Alls I want is to adjust my rear preload with relative ease!!
