Just reading Australian Motorcycle News and they have a news flash on the new SD.

It reads new motors for KTM.

Following Robert Prielinger, KTM's head of roadbike development the SD and Adventure bikes will be upgraded with a new engine and electronics package for 2013. The engine will be 1200 cc.

They want to bring the Adventure in to the BMW1200 GS range and from between the lines the SD will benefit from the same motor.

Further there will be an 800 cc motor which could possibly upgrade 690cc models like the duke.

By 2013??? you must be joking KTM?! By then the other evolved another 2 years and probably all this will be second rate again unless for the die hard SD fan.
In my opinion the RC8 motor is very suitable for fitting in the SD now. It is about the same weight and the torque and HP figures suit an upgraded SD to the T. It is of no use in the RC8 and sales figures back this up. There are plenty of standard RC8's at discounted prices in showrooms all over the world.
Anyone interested in this model is after and RC8R now.
Please KTM get on with it, we are allready waaaaay behind the Streetfighter, new Triumph Speed triple, etc.

The need to be worried about the Multistrada more than the 1200GS

2013! I was really hoping for 2012. Come on KTM it's time to get your arse in gear.

Imagine the evolution of the naked and all motorcycles in general by 2013

KTM really need to up thier game! i no thier a small company (relativly) but at this rate theyl be building a motorcycle thats out of date before its even released

i was hoping for 2012 myself since i'm in the market for a bike. i could ride my friends RC for a year but 2, i dont know.

In my opinion KTM sees the road models as second rate which pisses me off. Even the RC8 is left to fend for itself without upgrades.
If they would wait 2-3 years to upgrade the off road range they would have been out of business by now.

This left me with a feeling I get better treatment and more support by buying another brand next time.

In all fairness, the RC8 has been receiving updates every year. If anything, its the one street model that KTM is paying attention to.
