Due to finances and the wife wanting to upgrade teh house and some windows etc, i decided to do the right thing and downgrade my bike freeing up some capital. I don't ride that often now because of time constraints having a 10 month old son, so it made sense.

After lots of discussions i went for

Yamaha XT660x. Pretend Supermoto.

Has a tank range of 170miles, weighs less than a modern 600 supersports and is a big noisy single cylinder. Built by the Japanese too, so servicing costs etc should be low.

The bike is truely great. Proprt proper fun tool. Comfy up to 90mph and tops out about 105mph. It's far from being the quickest thing in the world, but is a blast to ride and handles like a dream.

It has many things in common with KTM's namely hunting/fuelling issues it's crap at 30mph LOL. However doesn't bother me, as it's not common for me to be in town etc.

Picked it up for £2500 on an 06 plate with 1300 miles on the clocks... BARGAIN !

Just thought i'd update you lads
I know where you're coming from. I'm in a similar situation myself.

No guilt necessary. Nice one.
At least you found an orange one...

Have fun with it.
Homo.............

You will be back
It looks a fair amount like a KTM. Maybe if you ride with your eyes closed it will feel the same!
Don't feel guilty, you will probably be back....

The XT is a very nice bike. I tried one on a small racetrack here in DK (not supermoto track). No problem following the 600's around.....!!!!!

I am sure you will be super happy with it........

I was nearly tempted by one of those a coupla years ago....glad I didnt but I know where you're coming from mate.

For £2.5k that is quite a bargain though!!
Bullcrap, it's all about speed; the SD was too fast for him, got a 950SM. That has now proved too scary too, so on to the... 660.

Where's this ride going to end? Royal Enfield? Bajaj? Cub?

I had a ball on my XT660X, even took it round Cadwell once. If its an 06 there are a few small mods that will make it much better though:
- first get a Hagon fork spring kit
- then fit a DNA stage 2 air filter kit (and remove the snorkel)
-and lastly, there is a chap in Oz that sells a kit to tune the air temp sensor readings (so that you can richen it up a bit) - not very expensive and you can get more details on the XT660 forum

The largest mistake was to sell the SD
