ok ,just got me superduke from a main dealer , 2009 model done 6800 miles . wrote to previous owner from log book , simply asking if the bike was ok for him and was there any problems i should know about , so received an email today from him , all great news , was a great bike for him blah blah etc , one comment though , he bought it new ,ran it in religiously to book , warmed it up before every ride etc and he said it still and i quote "has a thirst for oil like they all do" mmmm i thought is this normal and to what extent i ask , is it the fact that this isnt a typical in line four honda and never needs nothing, and ktm twins need a drop of oil regular, i have had three all day sunday blasts out of this bike and it is showing halfway between low and full on the sight pipe where i know it was showing full when i got it from the dealer , is this about normal lads,
Sounds normal plus the top to the bottom of the oil tube represents a fairly small amount of oil.

Be careful not to overfill
cheers reassurance is bliss

Gee, last sunday she drank 1 litre of oil (Motorex 10W60 full syntethic) in 500 km!!! It was spilling from the air filter box.
What should I do? Please help!

mine drinks oil like no tomorrow! 1ltr a every 2 month or so but i am out all day sundays and a lot mid week.
Fact: they burn a bit till they are run in and had a good trash. Mine stopped smoking a bit blue on overun after the dyno setup.
However using a different oil helps also. On some oils it just runs trough.
Only from personal experience the oils where I have the least or no consumption are, Silkolene, Elf/Total, motul.
I use Total at the moment and I don't have to top it up much in between changes (I change oil and filter every 5000km)

no oil consumption at all here and im running rotella super T..can't beat 24 bucks a gallon for synthetic and never had a problem with it in any of my bikes.
for the record quite a few 08 fireblades have been known for burning oil
