#9the SD is actually my first roadbike. (Ive been riding my old man's hand me down IL4's for too long! hehe) I'd been terrorizing the streets for years on my 525 motard, but I wanted something more... but something that had that "haha this is fooking fun" and a "rarr! look at me" factor to it. There was only one choice. I get a large grin on my stupid face just thinking about my SD.

#10Had my 2008 for three weeks now and done 1300 miles of twisties on the central California Coast. Choosing this bike was a gamble for me and I'm still not sure buying it was a good idea. The handling and brakes on tight hilly roads are outstanding and really inspire confidence, (watch this space for the crash post). It's the first naked bike for me in a very long time however, and the wind blast at speeds over 70mph is a real pain. Maybe I just need to grow some neck muscles but it does limit the bike.
No problems yet apart from the useless low fuel warning light and the snatchy throttle. I'm learning to ride around the throttle issue but it shouldn't be there and the bike would be so much better without it. Neither of the two local KTM dealers seem to have a clue how to fix it. Gearing is also too tall, but this not really a "problem" and is easily changed.
The low fuel warning light comes on with the tank still half full and I ran out of gas on it yesterday for the first time ever on a bike! Did 164.1 miles starting in San Luis Obispo in California on a full tank and riding north on Hwy-1 on the Big Sur coast to Nepenthe and back. A lot of this is 4th and 5th gear and we were riding quite fast so this is a pretty good tank range for a sport bike.
I could have bought an 08 FZ1 and upgraded everything on it for a lot less money. It wouldn't be nearly as good down a tight twisting road but better at everything else and a lot easier to live with. The Jury is still out.

#14When I first got my 2008 a few months back I posted a thread 'Twitchy Barsteward ain't she?' - well she bloody well is. If the 2005/6 models are worse I hate to think what they are like! I have just ordered the G2 cam and I hope this is going to help. In France we have a 100hp map that is the law for all bikes. I am going to get the dealer to put the full power Akra map on at the up-coming first service as he says that together with the Akras it will make a difference. Otherwise the bike is a diamond and I think it feels as light as hell so can't under stand Kiwi in this respect. I have pretty much learned to ride round the throttle in town, though the bloody cobbles and speed bumps of Paris in the wet are a challenge - I softened the suspension to the comfort settings and this did help. Out of town slow corners are another matter - if you screw up your gear selection you can scare the shite out of yourself - my opinion is that it's bloody dangerous sometimes - I can well see myself highsiding it if I'm not careful.

#16Why don't you try hook up with someone from this site, who considers their bike 'sorted'. Ride it and if it still doesn't satisfy you then you know it's not the bike but what you want from a bike. Saves you wasting big $$'s trying to sort it, and just get rid of it...

#29Well, for me it was love at first sight! Saw the original back in Nov of 2004 on the cover of Motorcyclist and said "THAT is my next bike!" When the planets finally lined up for me and the money was there, I bought mine offf Ebay, without ever so much as sitting on one! Now, mind you, I bought mine 2nd hand for $11,750.00 - Talk about takiing a risk! But the fellow I bought it from had excellent feedback, so I felt safe. I can say there are too many differences to list, coming off a 1994 ZX9R. But what struck me the first time I got to ride it was that it felt SO MUCH like my old Honda XL250 R!!! The engine pulses at slow speed even reminded me of riding on the street with knobbies! After 2-3 putts around the neighborhood I was absolutely DYING to go for a long ride. Now, after 8 months with it, my ONLY niggle is the gel seat is a bit uncomfortable, but no where near as bad as the original. I'm 41 yrs old, and I don't think I could ever own another sportbike, too tight in the leg dept. This SD is an incredibly fun bike to ride.
