Pirelli 180/60 DRC

Pirelli has developed a new Diablo rosso corsa in 180/60 for the new Ducati 848 streetfighter.
They claim this tyre has the contact patch of a 190 without the extra width and preserves the faster handling of the 180 profile.
Sounds like a good thing for the SD, anyone tried this yet? Not sure if it is available at the tyre dealers for now.

Anyone with more info?

I thought about this when I read the 848 launch report although I'm yet to see them for sale anywhere and our Ducati dealer is unsure.

So would the 180/60 be 5% taller than a 180/55? Wouldn't this be putting the bike more onto its nose and therefore shorten the rake and trail?

Its been out as a super corsa sc for some time now, i ran one last year, and a few others as well. Only works with standard gearing on the SD other wise it rubs the swingarm! I couldn't tell you if it offers more grip, not fast enough for that

All I know is I ran the rosa corsa II the next best one they sell that is dot the other one is really soft and is a total waiste on the street maybe 500 miles.The corsa II that I ran on my SD at Chuckwalla is a great tyre. I loved that tyre it sticks like glue all my edges were melted like they should be.I so need to get a extra set of rims for my RC8 and duke because these tyres won't last a 1000 miles on the street.The duke and the RC8 use the same front but the rear I have to get two rims.The 8 needs a 6 inch and the duke needs a 5 and a half.It would save so much money if I had track wheels and street wheels with street tyres.I just don't have the cash to buy 2 rear wheels and 1 front.I love the Pirelli's they are so good on the track it's amazing how fast you can go after they are warm they are so sticky I felt I could do anything on these.They are not cheap and don't last for shit on the street.I think you could get 2-3 track days if you just used them for just that.I won't use anything else if I had the extra wheels I would run slicks now that would be cool the RC8 R Track only come stock with Pirelli slicks I wonder how those are.I used to run slicks in the 80's when i raced what a differance back then.These pirelli's that are dot you can get now smoke the tyre's we used to use back then.I think they make a great product.For me dunlaps always felt like they were going to slip and got hard real quick.I had a set on my aprilia and I never felt like they had a great grip I did not like them.I did a lot of research and saw pirelli really is on the gas so I tried a set.Best tyres I ever have had.I wish I liked dunlaps because you can get them so cheap.Now I have to get tyres for both bikes for track day no wonder i am always a broke dick.I need a suger mama. too bad the wife won't let me have one

It would in theory raise the bike 4.5 mm, and yes it would affect rake/trail a little. But you ALL have the Nichols kit, right?

Not a fan of proprietary and/or "OEM" variants of tyres, as they tend to be spendy, and not always easy to get replacements ...

That said, a 180/60 makes sense in lieu of running a 190/55 - in race rubber.

On the street, I could care less. For the lean angles and traction available, 180/55 has plenty of contact area. Frankly - and I'm guessing here - that Ducati specified this tyre to overcome some strange quirk with the TC, geometry, or combination of these. Or, maybe it was mostly a marketing hook to force customers to return to dealers for their tyres - ? Ducati is a business, and like any other, exists to generate profits - for itself, and its dealers.

The new size is just another techy/latest/greatest "thing" that has filtered down from the race track.

The size came about because last years BSS bikes did away with TC so they needed more grip, Pirelli came up with the new size tyre and compounds (and also stiffened the side wall like Dunlop do) which resulted in more grip at lean angles - thats it - end of storey and as we all no racey stuff become fashion
