Please help! Akrapovic confusion!

I'm looking at exhaust options for a 2008 SDR and saw two Akrapovic titanium slip on options in the KTM Street Powerparts catalog. There is also a full EVO system shown (consisting of two part numbers), but the description says, "Not useable for 990 Superduke R 08-09." Does anyone know why this is the case?

Here is a similar link:

I would prefer a full titanium system for weight savings, though I know I could probably take a big dump and lose almost the same weight.

Cheers!
Um, thanks for sharing that ...

You really want to shell out the ~$2.7K+ or whatever for a full Ti system? You really think that's going to make you go faster, or what? Headers and cans sold separately. You going racing with it?

Those parts won't fit the SDR. The SDR already has ginormous pipes, and extra juice straight out of the box over the SD. Throw on one of the 2 models of S.O., and good to go.

i would just get some slip on cans and leave it at that mate, there is a huge weight loss in doing that alone , if you do it your self you will see !!

My son has an '08 SDR with a full EVO Ti exhaust. I picked up the system, silencers and header, on Ebay last November, new in the box for $1500 delivered to San Francisco.
Scuderia West did the install and map (ending in 2031) for @ $300. The system was installed with no difficulty and the map has proved to be very satisfactory. A throttle tamer was also installed.Sorry, but I am unable to find the part numbers at this time.
The combination of exhaust, map, and throttle tamer completely transformed the rideability of the bike.
Good luck.
i swapped from the std headers to the SDR ones and they are definitely lighter, not a lot, but they are, the mufflers are a no brainer, the std kit is an anchor!
but yes, if losing weight is the goal the place to start is unsprung weight, wheels, discs and the hardware that holds them together. the less unsprung mass the more your suspension can control the mass of the bike, and your acceleration will improve due to the lighter mass of the wheels. enough to notice on the road? doubt it.

paul.
Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it!

No doubt the stock cans will be replaced -- it seems that the most substantial weight savings will be realised there. I estimate ti headers would yield an additional 2-3 lbs. weight savings if I'm lucky. My only "concern" (if you could call it that) is the smaller diameter of the ti headers (vs. the stock SDR headers) and the effect it will have on the power delivery (not necessarily on a real dyno, rather the butt dyno ).

Paul, I agree with you regarding the weight loss start point. Unsprung mass reduction is one of my top priorities, however, even with my hookups, I think that it will still cost me in the area of $4-5,000 US for the wheels and and rotors I want, and I'm just a working stiff (with a slightly warped sense of priorities ). And with the Panigale being launched in a couple of weeks, I have a feeling that money might better serve as a down payment ) BTW, I absolutely love your build! Very inspiring and beautifully done!
I just replaced my battery with the new evo ballastic took 10+ pounds off the bike and it runs fine and it cheaper than the stock KTM battery even tho you can get a yuasa for cheaper than the Ktm. My new battery only weighs like 2 pounds.Get rid of the stock cans and save anothe 30 lbs I got the fmf apex the sound great look great love them.
Quick question here: What would the gain be of fitting the akra sdr headers on a non r superduke (07, stock cans with catalyzer removed, motobox, 2nd flies and sas removed)
Would the akra headers make a lot of difference, or would I just be making the oil change a bit more fiddly?

You've got a point there, but don't have the money for a full system, and can get a set of brand new sdr headers for 125 euro. I like the looks, and was wondering if it would only be cosmetic, or if i would also gain some performance.
@ktm666 thanks, sounds like a no go then.
They look great on...but they are a different length (from standard or Full Akra system) the power feels more dramatic as it starts from a lower point....the dyno does not lie (I could not believe how much I lost)
I hear ya.

What I'm getting at though is Bic looks like he's made 8bhp over std. When in fact he's made 20bhp!

Just shows, all those journos and testers who tag the bike as brutal and wild are actually 20bhp down on what most of us have here.

Those are some serious power gains through very easy mods and inexpensive parts.
This is an interesting point. Never dynod standard bike as I had the akra exhausts put on before I collected it from the dealer. And really, who would ever go and pay for a proper dyno session to map a bike that they haven't even changed from standard? If anyone has it would be interesting to hear from them.

Manufacturers alway exaggerate power claims for their engines, whether they are back wheel or actual outputs.

All my dyne runs we carried out by the same company, by the same technical and as far as I know the same machine but as Shade says, the weather, temperature etc. All have an effect so nothing serves as a direct comparison really.

I mainly get dyno runs to make sure that that air/fuel mix is optimum and that the graphs are smooth. Not really for the max BHP and torque proof but that is what everyone want s to know.
I had my Standard bike on a dyno, just out of curiosity and because it was free. Plan is to get it on that Same dyno again after the motobox etc etc. And see what the difference is.
What i don't get: how can the EVO system give gains al the way through the revs, and the sdr system not? Both have a bigger diameter than stock. And i Always thought Same length pipes for each cil is a good thing, which would mean sdr headers Should be good.
Still waiting to hear from loony. He has the sdr headers on a non r sd.

Here is the dynosheet from my standard run:

107.5 hp, and 93.1 Nm. (68.67 lbft)

And because of that I opened it up, took a lot of crap out, and had it welded shut again. The only aftermarket exhaust that look good are the dam exhaust. And i like the look of the fmf pipes too. But stock looks best.
On a sdr aftermarket looks better than stock.
