Poor/no rear brake performance

I'm noticing more and more that the rear brake on the SD doesn't work all that well. In fact it's practically non-existant.
I use the rear when dawdling up to the rear of cars at junctions etc; it's just a bit smoother than using the front especially in the wet. Also good for rapidly dropping the front during wheelies-going-wrong!

Has anyone else noticed poor performance from it? could it be that the fluid bottle sits next to the exhaust and goes off very frequently? I bleed the system regularily and it works for a while, then nothing.

yeah mine needs bleeding up peareodickley , I think its becose the master cilinder is so close to the exaurst and gets kooked , coursing the fluide to expand and contrackt unesaselerye so it abzorbs air and mioster .

just my theary on it , as wen in town or after a hard ride ,the back brake fades alott when the bike is hot , feel your master cilinder ,and how hot it is to the tuch after a ride .

the stupid bend in the brake line dozent help eathere with the bleeding ,

A quick fix is to hang a 5'lt oil container on the brake leaver over nihgt so it compreses the air out of the fluid over nihgt , but iff it gets rearley bad , you will need to bleed it evenchaley .

I'll go and try the 'push the pedal down' trick now and see if it works tomorrow. A bit like cable-tieing the front lever to the bar I guess - didn't think of that. Failing that I'll bleed it again...and again...and again...

It wont improve you KTM rear brake performance but it will make it feel much much better

The only thing it does is locking the backwheel, its good for wheelying and slow traffic and thats it.
The front bites hard for a reason. Even in the wet i dont use the back break, it has no point. 1 finger on the front break is all i need to slow down, 2 fingers for stoppies.
Never use more then 2 fingers, unless u wanna hit the pavement..

I had the fluid changed in mine a little while back and it made virtually no difference. The pads are originals and are no thinner than when new. I dont use it and as such its prolly got contaminated pads from the 35000 miles of cack thats flown into it!

Change your pads for EBC HH's and use em regularly if you want it to stay fresh. Either that or chop it out for the 950SM or Adventure rear caliper, it's a two pot caliper....I think.....Personally, I dont need the rear brake, the engine does enough rear braking for me and it's strong enough to hold it at the lights if my hands are tired.
