If you are running Akras, etc. and don't like the popping and crackling from the SAS on overrun then try the old greased marble trick...I did it..it sealed off the SAS neatly and stopped the popping...but after a year or so I missed the backfiring and popping and took the marble out.

You will also get some popping when the graphite seal in the exhaust system is worn out...mine went after a few years... The old exhaust pipe was getting pretty nasty looking in its third year ("stainless" steel?..yeah... right)...so I bought a whole "as new" exhaust system on ebay (with nice fresh...there is actually no such thing graphite seal) for not much more than the cost of the seal...which was unobtainable/backordered anyway.

What is "the old greased marble trick"?

Easiest way to disable SAS is to pull the hose off the back of the airbox, take a standard sized marble and cover it witha drop or two of oil and push it into the hose, reconnect hose to airbox.

Blocks it 100% for the price of a marble, and because it is round, it is easy to pop back out if you need to put everything back to stock.

It is not worth my time to remove all the stuff to install blockoff plates, which cost money and don't really save you any weight.
Big twins with open exhausts like to pop. I love it.
Popping is cool, especially to corn and weisels

No, rust is slow oxidation, explosions are rapid oxidation. Your stock exhaust is Stainless steel, it is the degradation from the heat that you will be affected by. I'll take the popping, Im riding a bike, I am already being nicer to the mother earth and she'll give up more stainless for me sooner or later, hell I might make her give me titanium next time.

How long (miles) do the graphic seals last?
What a twat it is to do that graphite gasket.....was easier to take the whole system off......mine still pops odd times....checked the gasket and headers and they are tight as feck?
Ok, will plan for a bit of a struggle then, I'm fully versed in swearing at akward bastard fookin things
