#3Should have always been black from the factory. What were they thinking? Mine would be black but it's a lot of stripping down to remove it for painting unless there is another reason to remove everything.

#5I just got mine powdercoated for about 20quid.
Takes 10mins to strip, looks harder than it is.
The hardest bit is scraping all that sliver heat foil off the sides of the undertray. Makes it a lot tidier though. Same with grinding off those pillion hanger mounts if you don't use them.

#7Most dirt bikes subframes are aluminium / silver. Don't forget KTM is dirt orientated. I think that is what they were thinking, light weight mind set. Hey guys, I have a question on the rear seat cover on this post. I am mocking up a bump rear section on the seat. I made it out of coragated cardboard and tapped it on for a 70 mile ride yesterday. It feels right to me and looks right also. I took the bike over to the local m/c seat upholster master for a chat and quote. He liked the shape and said he could / would do it up. He will remove the seat cover, add foam to shape the bumb stop and sew up a new seat cover. A work around for the key latch is a patch of some sort with velcro. Maybe a KTM logo. My question is as I look at the cover on this post, the cover has a steep slant that does not look like any kind of a bump stop. I made my mock up with an almost vertical bump stop.
I guess the photo on this post is just a cover and gives no support? Or is it missing something? My 87 GSXR had a pad mounted to the cover.
ps... I was also looking for more storage under the bump stop. Not e-nuf room under to bother with. Rats!

#9I pulled my exhaust off to have it ceramic coated, and figured I'd have my swing arm done and my sub frame done too. The swing arm is still over and the powder coater but subframe is done.... both were done to match the frame. I just pained the heat shield on the bottom of the seat tray with exhaust paint.

#13are you leaving the rear panels off? if not, the subframe is hardly visible...
I had mine powder coated black along with my swing arm, and a host of other little bits and bobs, a few years ago now.

#17I started the tear down process today. I'm going to paint the subframe and cam heads orange and then get orange Sd decals. Should turn out pretty sweet.

#19Everything was sent off to be powder coated today. Subframe, Cam covers, Motobox and rear foot pegs. Remus exhaust on the way. Joy!

You can see the basic breather mod in the first pic. I still have to get the exhaust just perfect. In the pic below the right can hangs a bit farther out than the left. I'm gonna have to fiddle around with it a bit more. I installed how Bic suggested. The project as a whole is taking longer than expected for being so simple ... Just not enough free time. Seems the only time I have is no time.!? It's a shame most of the bling will be covered up, but for $135.00 can't complain.

#43Problems with the decals is that dimensions will have to be spot on as the original decals cannot be removed (they are under the clear coat).
