Powerparts alarm

Hi Guys

I'm new here, but I haven't introduced myself. I'll do it later, as I have to go and change the oil on my old bike (zx9r).

I've just bought a KTM Superduke 990. It's fitted with the optional Powerparts alarm, made by Metasystems / Meta alarm. I'm having WEIRD problems with it. I've never used an alarm before..

It kills the bike every time I try to turn it on. I've recorded a video. Youtube link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt573Cs2-xQ

Read the video description, for what's going on.

PLEASE help. I'm almost about to cry, just bought the bike yesterday and the former owner have never had any problems with the alarm (I trust the guy, I knew him a bit before I bought the bike)..

Thanks in advance

Hi Anders,

Ah ok, I think I see the problem.

Stick the key in the ignition and turn it on making sure the neutral light is on. Then press the alarm button and you will hear the fuel pump whirr. You should then be able to start the bike.

If you follow this routine and it still won't start you have probably got a fault somewhere.

I can see from the video the bike is in neutral and can hear the fuel pump but when you pressed the button it appeared that nothing happened.

To prove the fault remove the alarm loom from the alarm under the seat and replace the blank plug in the end of the loom and try again. If OK there's a possible fault in the alarm. If it still won't start check your battery terminals are tight and that the kill switch is not faulty.

To arm the alarm you can just turn off the ignition and wait a few seconds (does not arm the movement detector) or you can press the alarm button to fully arm the alarm.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Rick

Had a similar quandry with a Meta 357T V2. (the KTM's V1)
Turned out the end 2 pins on the large plug that goes into the alarm feed the starter motor. They weren't making full contact so the alarm disarmed, the instruments and fuel pump fired up but the starter motor wouldn't turn! Might be worth double checking the plug again?
