Problems at the tt!

Noticed on the way to the ferry that it was using more fuel than anybody else but just thought that was normal. Went to go out yesterday and its misfiring and cutting out big time! Both pipes are hot so i think the plugs are fine , i pulled the top off the airbox and its all dry, sprayed the whole of the electrics with wd40 but its still the same! It feels like water in the fuel but all my mates used the same pump and i took it out a run to try clear it and it used about half a gallon in 10 miles! Ive had to get one of my mates to come from central scotland to heysham to get me, what a nightmare! Anybody got any ideas? On a plus i never got passed over the mountain the twice i was over it lol

Have you had rain? Water in the big grey plug maybe?
Sounds like some electrical sensor issue, any fault codes on the dash?

It hardly stopped raining! It does seem like a sensor problem but no fault codes showing i sprayed all the plugs but i know water is a bitch to shift and it was raining heavily all the way to the ferry and it was raining so bad on thursday that we never went out so water somewhere seems likely unless anybody knows different, it sometimes ticksover but it dosnt seem to be bringing the choke on for a few mins like it used to and as soon as i try rev it the things drops onto one cylinder or died on me, it feels like its. Ot even on one cylinder at times

Do you have a PCIII? If so check the earth lead.

A friend of mine had a similar problem last year at Le Mans but on a 950 Supermoto, he thought it felt like a blocked carb jet.
We cleaned the carbs out whilst we were over there but no luck. Got home ok but turned out to be a burned exhaust valve and seat! Try a compression test if you don't find any electrical problems.

I've not heard of a single SD doing a valve on here yet, would be very surprised if that turned out to be it. I'm def leaning to electrical. Mine had a similar misfire and it turned out to be a lose earth to the PCIII. Wouldn't necessarily explain the huge amounts of fuel used though

Ok checked the pc3 earth and its fine split the plugs and sprayed them with wd40 and it seems better but its started raining so im not going out on it ive seen enough rain! It really felt like water in the fuel i also wondered if the plugs might be breaking down under load?

Possible leak in the fuel line? leaking out elsewhere hence the fuel use? and fuel starvation?

Any signs of leaks when running stationary? Even if raining you should see fuel in water on ground?

My pick would be a bad coil. Had a similar problem on a VTR1000. I would've put money on a tank of bad fuel, but nope, was a dodgey coil.

Swap coils with another bike is the quickest way to make sure.

got it sorted,turns out it was the big grey plug after all,i think water must have been running down the cables and into it! problem ive got now is with it not firing properly it seems to have fired all the unburnt fuel into my oil! i noticed there was too much oil so i drained a bit and it stank of petrol! what do i do about that? drain it and refill with fresh oil?
