#5Also gone from an 05 standard SD a couple of years ago (via a Speed Triple 1050, Brutale 910 and K1200 R) to an 07 SDR. The SDR is the best of the lot, though the Triumph has a lovely engine if a bit anodyne. The MV was a good engine when on a "postive" throttle at high revs but dreadful lower down the rev-range and from shut to open throttle--far jerkier than either SD and inconsistent throttle response. Both SDs have the same engine so identical throttle response---I must have got used to the alleged jerkiness as I don`t find it a problem. Haven`t ridden an 08 SDR with the uprated engine so can`t comment on that.The suspension on the SDR is firmer than standard but I find has better feel/feedback and adjustability. It seems to ride over bumps like the best Ohlins stuff and doesn`t jar or feel harsh. The MV by contrast felt about the same degree of hardness as the SDR but it crashed and jarred off bumps no matter how you tried to dial this out. Poor really.
Again, the SDR seat hasn`t caused discomfort though 500miles is the most I`ve done in a day so far.I do a lot of cycling to try and stay fit so maybe that helps. The standard SD seat is obviously more forgiving but I didn`t feel it was any better---I prefer the feel of the SDR .
Overall I`d take the SDR every time even for road use only. One thing that did concern me was the steering damper contacting and denting the radiator so I`ve changed it for an LSL item which has been fine---I can see what it`s doing! (did have to adjust the lock stops a little though). I`m a bit wary of hidden dampers---I seem to remember reading of someone whose SDR damper failed and went through the radiator and a journo from Fast Bikes reported an aftermarket steering damper going through the radiator of his Speed Triple. No chance of that with the LSL item.
For anyone interested (that`ll be no-one here....) the Beemer was an excellent tourer ---comfy and practical with a surprisingly sporty edge. Heavy and cumbersome compared to the others-SD especially. Good alternative to the ubiquitous GS though if you can afford more than one bike, and ballistic in a straight line.

Did yours have a 1 second pause from when you open at low revs to when it actually responded ?
