So which is it? Are you looking for more aggressive or more comfortable?

If you're looking for more comfort than a riser (taller than stock) is your best bet. If you're looking for more aggressive, then get yourself a Ducati Streetfighter handlebar. It's noticably lower and more angled in a 'sport' orientation. I have one on my SDR and its the bees knees!

Surely we can take this thing to the laws of physics. Moving your weight up eighteen millimeters would cause the angle from hip pivot to shoulder on a five foot ten inch man weighing one hundred seventy five pounds to be reduced by so much that the front wheel would barely stay on the ground. If said bike did not have the secondary high cost expenditure of all things related to smoothing that uncontrollable throttle respounce it is almost a certaintee that said rider would end up on his keaster. If you do decide to add the bar risers, to make the ergonomics more in line with your comfort, please be advized that to keep from voiding your health insurance and motorcycle insurance policy, you need to add the weight back to the front. You can do this several wieghts, one is install bar risers that are made out of aluminium not helium. The extra weight will compensate for the reduced front lean. You can wear thicker gloves. This should be 1.4mm cow hide and for heavens sake do not attempt to ride the bike with kangaroo gloves, you are asking to get pounched right off. If niether of these choices move you, your last resort is to put rim tape on the front wheel only, this will be overcompensating but one should never be too careful. Bars and risers, Pubs and losers.

Sammy, just make sure that any handlebar you get is a 'fat' type or sometimes called 'tapered'. This means that it will fit into your OE clamps and also fit the controls and levers. There are a few threads on this - I remember measuring all the diameters and posting them up - I think the thread is called, "Handle bar and bends". Rizoma do some good flat style bars that fit right on. And they do them in black too!

There is another reason why I wanted flatter bars that is not to do with handling and weight distribution at all - and no one has mentioned this. The SD has no wind protection, (don't even come back and say it has a fly screen!! ) so even a short blast on a motorway at anything over 80/90 mph really gets your neck and shoulders. Tried the bigger screens but couldn't live with the ugly looks. I find that I just want to hunch forward more and lean into the hurricane. Those few inches more forward make a difference I find. Fitting risers and sitting more upright would be the opposite of what I wanted to do. The SD still has a LOT of grunt to accelerate at 90 through to 120+ and I want to lean into that when I overtake cages not feel my arms are being stretched out and I'm going to fall off the back Like a few have said it's all about posture on the bike where you feel happy.
