Rossi's Camera

In a previous thread I mentioned the idea of making a gimballed camera:

Yes. Great wasn't it. He had two. One for the bum shot but another on the left side of the bike low down. These weren't just gimballed but the full gyroscope monty. Excellent.

I have worked with a lot of cnc machines, robotics and automation controls. After watching that race, the camera appears to be rotated by a servo motor. I dont think the gyro is in the camera. Rather, the gyro is located somewhere else on the bike, it's actuating a position encoder, and that is driving the servo.
A gyro stabalized cam has a more analog motion.

...... the commentators on the BBC (for what they're worth!.... much prefer the eurosport guys) stated that the camera was actually not gyro but GPS controlled.... ie - the camera knows where it is and applies the correct lean angle....... but personally i think thats a load of guff!....... how can it possible know the lean angle for differing speeds?

Anyhooo good luck with the GoPro idea....... gravitational gimbaling won't work...... its gonna have to be a gyro i think.....

Yup, it's servo motor controlled. Funny, the servo looks just like the kind used on remote control aircraft. That's a great way to keep costs down. Those things are plentiful and cheap.
