RUST!

AaaaHHHhhh!! Just spotted rust on the bar end of my '06 SD this morning! Not impressed with that!!
I know she's not kept in a heated garage but the VTR was kept in the same conditions for years without rust appearing on the bar ends...

Maybe this is a good excuse to order an set to keep her looking good.

Is it the bar end or the bolt that's rusted? Even stainless steel rusts if left out in sea air

Just the bar end (did not check the bolt) & I'm few miles away from the sea. Will have a look at the bolt later today.

The paint finish is pretty thin IMO on the bar ends... Maybe just a respray will do but any excuse to buy something new will do

Mine were a little rusty as well. Therefore, I sandblasted and repaited them with epoxy paint.

I will not replace the ends as I wish to retain the std brass weights to remove vibrations.

my bike has seen rain once, on the way back from its 1st service, and the little washers on the rear reflector rusted.
i've seen fur on the exposed part of the subframe and a big lump of paint came off the brake reservoir (must have hit a big bee or something!).
from then on everything possible has been plastered in silicon spray.
i'm hoping that will do the trick.
