SAFE Bike Cleaner???

Looking for a cleaner to use on my bikes.

Got a 5 litre of some I'd used OK on a couple of Jap bikes and decided to wash my KTM with it last week after it got covered in crap from all the lovely weather we've been having here in the UK.

Anyway, gave primarily the lower end of the bike a light mist down with it and went to grab the hose. Can't have been more than a couple of minutes, and it wasn't real hot and sunny, but after I'd hosed it off there were white marks all over anything anodised or rubber!

Luckily I managed to wash and rub most of them off but whatever is in it was obviously attacking the above. I rang the suppliers who swore there is no caustic in it but I'm not so sure, according to a local anodisers that is precisely what it must be, when they strip anodising they put it in a bath of caustic.

So I'm looking for something 110% anodised aluminium safe. Has anyone on here (UK) used any of the other cleaners on the market that they have found to be completely safe to use?


PS. I'm also surprised the makers aren't bound to state on the packaging what chemicals are in their products. If there had been a mention of caustic in it I wouldn't have used it.

I think paraffin with some dishwash detergent and water causes less trouble than anything else, any detergent stuff.
In other words, I don't have a good answer.
I think the best thing is to wash and rinse only a small section at a time.

I've been using that on my Aprilia for the past few years and haven't had any problems. Works well on finished surfaces, and metal. Gets bug-guts and chain-grease off pretty well.

I have a five gallon drum of TFR (traffic film remover) costs 19 english pounds and lasts years, I had it for my motocross bike. You have to be careful or it will dull plastics however I really just use if for brakes wheels and engine and was it off fairly quickly never had any probs with it.

Why does parrafin ruin the O rings? Parrafin doesn't rot rubber, does it??

I've been using parrafin for ages on my chains to clean them and had no trouble, I have been worried abot it driving out the old thicker lube but applying my fresh lube (Wurth dry chain wax) on a warm chain seems to work SO well.

I've had 19000 miles out of each chain I've had, now on my 3rd chain.
