SD Net Euro Trip 2010?

I have never been abroad on any bike and fancy a euro trip summer 2010 as Danno pointed out it would be a good idea and a lot of fun.

I would have to bow down other members knowledge of this and take on board there recomendations.

Whats better? Guided tours from one location (over a few days like other SD memebrs bike Normandy tour) or just travelling all over from one location to next?

Where? France Germany, Spain, would we want to do Nurburgring etc? just SD members or friends? maximum numbers etc?

This is really just a thread to guage interest and if nothing else something for me to do next summer with your advice on where you have been and what you have done.

My experience, smaller groups (2-6max) are better for progressive riding or big-distances-not-much-time, especially if busy towns have to be negotiated.
Down in Avignon we've had a base-camp and then headed off in different directions from there, returning each night. Have also done the hop-to-hop type tour also, with no planned stopping over places, which has it's own adventure side to it, especially on a dark wet sunday in rural France!!

First you've got to work out how much time off work you can afford to spend, how much ££ there is in the pot, then gauge how far you can realistically ride in that time. If you plan it around another event, like a WSBK round at Imola, or a MotoGP at Brno, then you have half of the plan right there.

Germany is cheap for hotels and most other things.
NL to the 'ring can be done in a day as the autobahn follows the Rhein and you can get to the Eifel pretty easily. The Mosel valley and the Ardenne are reachable while you are in that area. The Germans do plenty of specifically for motorcyclists.

Read up on the 'ring before hand if you intend to go there. Opening times, insurance requirements and the fact that German traffic law applies sometimes catch people out.

I'm going to my 3rd of these trips in september

We use a base camp. that way if you do get soaked you can get back, dry your kit have a hot shower and a few beers to get over it, not very easy with a tent.

Bikes are sent down by van/lorry and riders fly down to meet them 3-5 days riding and fly home again.


The trip I'm doing in sept has the following plan

6 riders / bikes to a group
1 rider gets a free trip but has to drive the van!
5 fly down, grab a hire car and meet the van at the campsite ( we have 6 berth caravans )
We've got 3 trackdays booked and 2days riding round the mountains (pyranees)
