SD or Aprilia Tuono - What should I buy?

Hey guy's I'm looking for some direction, I have just sold an R1 and am looking at a V twin naked next (my mates has been raving about V twins for ages - he's just traded his RSVR for an 06 Tuono). I have now tried both the Superduke and an 06 Tuono and i can't decide. The superduke is great but so is the Tuono.

Has anyone else out there with a SD tried the latest incarnation of Tuono. i would interested to get their comments. In the mean time i think i will just have to book another demo ride on the SD to refresh my memory before I make a decision.

I think you re not going to get the "get the tuono" answer on a forum called superduke.net but i know that these are 2 diferent bikes and there are some things that you might consider.

Tuono is more like a jap bike. User friendly with lots of power. I think that if you like that sort of stuff its for you. On the other hand if you are some kind of a hooligan then the SD is for you. I think that the SD is more ready to race than the tuono.

I never tried the Touno as it doesn't really appeal to me in the same way. Having said that had a RSV-R a few years ago and it was a great bike.

When I test rode the SD I was unsure if it really was as great as all you read about it. Felt a little flat at first - I was coming from a ZX10r so to be expected I guess. What I didn't know at the time is when the SD is delivered it is restricted until it's run in and even then has a restriction in 1st 2nd gear.

Now I've got one, run it in, had it serviced - this re-maps the bike to get rid of the restriction - it's brilliant. Riding with friends who are still on ZX10's etc, on roads that are sub 100mph that are anything but perfectly smooth they struggle to keep up.

For me the SD was the one because it's so different, really well made and is the hooligan.

You have to choose but if you go for the SD you won't be sorry.

You could get the Tuono but you'll need a big paper bag to cover it, man those things are hideous!

I think either would be great bikes, I've ridden the old RSVR and new RSVR Factory (that was me in Performance Bikes a few years back, I'm famous! No autographs, no, let me through please... ), though not the Tuono.

But I can't help thinking that the SD was designed to be what it is and so works well as a whole. The Tuono is a sports bike with a completely different riding position forced on it, it simply cannot function as well with different weight distribution and rider inputs when it was designed for a racing crouch.

One other consideration.....check insurance prices....Tuono came up more expensive on insurance for me, £1,200 fully comp whereas SD was £600.

There are many comparison tests between the SD and the Tuono. It sounds like a cliche but the SD is the better one.
One major problem with the tuono is its enormous long gear ratio, theoretically it runs about 300km/h. You dont feel the power because of this. Environtmental issues...
I think you have to like the looks of one of those two bikes.

Well I'm not sure about the new Tuono, but I used to own the old model and it wasnt anywhere near as good as the SD... All clumsy and tractor like.... Better off with an R1 than a Tuono

I had a Speed Triple.. it was black... it was slow.

In pre-season testing for all race series most of the bikes are black.

That's becasue they're dog slow.

Once they actually win the series they have lots of lovely colours!

You'll have noticed all the KTM's in 250's for example were lovely, fast, bright, ORANGE!!
