SD VS TRIPLE

Hi Everyone. Been reading this forum for awhile and its the most enthusiastic one I have ever seen.

Anyway... Could use some help as I am trying to decide between the Super Duke and the Triumph Speed Triple. I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has owned or ridden both.

I am going to buy one within a week.

Just a little background... Just sold my Ducati Paul Smart and 2002 MV Augusta 750. Loved both of the bikes, but were way too uncomfortable for me. Really tough to ride in the stop and go Los Angeles traffic. Also unloading my 1997 Sportster this weekend so my garage will be empty.

Not ridden the triple, but the bars and levers look 'cheap' and nasty don't you think ?

If you ring Premier bikes http://www.premierbikes.com and speak to Darren or Andy, they have both the SD and the Triple in and would let you test ride both to get your own impressions.

Asking people is good... testing them yourself is WAY better.

My advice? Unsurprisingly it's get a SuperDuke. It wins all the head to head tests (apart frmo the UK tests surprise surprise!).

Components all a better quality and whilst the SpeedTriple is a great bike, it's no Superduke!!!

Owned both bikes you mention and back with an SDR. The KTM is just better fun all round though you could argue the Speed Triple engine is preferable.It certainly is more linear and powerful than the SD but less involving.Nevertheless, in a straight line the Sd feels faster and probably is as its a lot lighter than the Triumph. On a twisty road theres no competition--the Triuph will be left behind. It goes very well up to a certain speed then seems to run out of composure whereas the Sd will handle anything. The KTM brakes better and is better built as well. I enjoyed my Speed Triple--it`s a very good bike but not in the same league as the SD. You really need to ride both bikes for yourself--that`s the only way of choosing what suits you in the end....

Grendel has seat time on both bikes. The S3 is a great bike. It is a quick and nimble lorry. Engine has character and lots of grunt. It has better wind protection and better after market support. Also as hard as it is to admit - Grendel must point out that its dealer network is deeper and richer. But no matter how fast it goes it can not get away from its weight.

The SD has all that character and more. It is a bit more temperamental, it has less wind protection, and it puts a grin on Grendel's face faster than any bike he has ridden.

When I was deciding on a bike it was between the SD, Tuono, and, believe it or not, Street Triple, and the Speed Triple. The 690 Duke was also getting a look. So between the SD and the S3 I went with the SD because it has better brakes, is better suspended, lighter by I think 20 - 30 lbs, and from my experience more comfortable. The S3 throws a bit more weight on your wrists than the SD. The S3 for sure makes more power but the SD makes more than enough and in the twisty's it's other advantages would more than make up for hp with equal riders doing the work. Both are very fine bikes IMO but I'm orange all the way.
