#9I own a 1098s Tricolore and an 07 990SD. The responses regarding the 1098 are hilarious. The Ducati is so much faster than the SD on the track, there is no comparison. For those who don't think the 1098 handles as well as the SD, most likely did not have the suspension set up correctly. Raising the ride height does wonders for the turn in.
That being said, the SD is an incredible road bike, can come close to hanging with the 1098 on the road, and is much more comfortable. The SD is great at what it was meant to do but don't think that performance/handling wise it is the equal of the 1098.
By the way, I've ridden the SDR and a basic 1098 as well.

#10Thanks for the replies, guys. If the rumours are correct about an 1190 SDR, I may have to wait to 2010 for it to turn up on this side of the pond. Buut I dont have that much patience.
I have been lusting for the 1098R the local Duc stealer has on their showroom floor, but the 1098S is closer to what I'd end up spending on an SDR, after the upgrades mentioned. At this point I'm leaning towards the SDR but I plan on test rides before making a final decision... Thanks again for the input.

#11I've ridden a 1098S. I'd take it for the track, w/ the SD (not R) a no-brainer for the street.
The 1098 performs and looks great, but IMO is a crappy street bike. Really cramped ergos, near useless mirrors, hands hit the fairing at full lock, etc. Sucks on "normal" roads, but feels great in the twisties.
I personally didn't feel any great difference in my speeds between the two in the twisties riding in a semi-responsible manner. The difference in comfort, however, was night and day in favor of the SD!

#20For the majority street and occasional track day I'd say the SDR. For 95% track and 5% street I'd say 1098S. I'd never want to wad up a 1098 at the track. Even putting one down could cost thousands. That's why I have my track prepared '06 GSX-R 750. It's great bike and really takes some abuse. And if I put in down I won't have to take a second out on my house
