SDR with SD engine.

OK folks, the four fiddy's gone, I'm selling the scooter next week and I'm planning on selling the SDR after my old SD's back to her glorious self.
So a strange thought occurred to me today and it was this.

Does anybody want to buy a pretty SDR 08/09 with an 05 engine?
I know it sounds a bit strange but I love the power of the SDR engine but some don't. I prefer the 05/6 styling to the SDR but some don't. Now I know I could watch breakers and fleabay for an SDR engine but the idea just popped into my head that some folk might love the styling of the SDR but not the twitchy power, whereas I prefer the opposite.

Thoughts on the matter please fellow SD net groovers..

Nah I'd stick with the old engine in the SD buddy. All that paper work to DVLA, expense of getting engines and ecu swapped and for what? A bit more of a chance up Park straight

Sounds like a good idea. You will take a financial hit on it no doubt but you'll end up with your dream bike. I wouldn't bother with getting any head work done though bud. TBH I really haven't noticed any difference in mine power wise.
From what I gather, the original SD and the new SD R have got to be very similar in power. It would surprise me to find that you could not make them feel the same for a whole lot less than all that a switch would cost in time and effort.
Spend the money on gas and sell the SD R and don't look back.

I'm taking a wild stab in the dark here and guessing Motoronin may have a few bevies last night. Don't ask me what's making me think that, its just something in his tone at 1.13am

You'd have to swap everything. Engines, FI, ECUs the lot. Not actually that much grief as I'm pretty sure the wiring harnesses will be the same engine wise so they can stay in place. A days work? I'd whip those 2nd flies out of the SD and SDR. Free up a few ponies and smooth both bikes throttle response out a little more.

Edit: actually I guess not on the ECUs. You could just flash the ECU with the new engines map and it's job done. Does anyone know if there are any differences in the ECU hardware?
do what you want.

someone will buy it.
Its a piece of piss to change the V5 with new engine number, no one will ever know.

The main wiring looms are slighly different part numbers (I checked), so you would need to swap those electrics too.

Just the ball ache of swapping everything over, however you will have rip snorting SD
I think you'd have a bit of a struggle on your hands trying to sell an SDR with a SD engine

Why not just put 05 bodywork/seat/panels etc on the SDR and get the frame powder coated black or is that too simple

I'd just say fook it swap them over and have the bike you want. There will always be someone to by the SDR frame with the other motor in it. Plus aren't the heads on your 05 flowed? That will help sell the SDR.
Just do it mate, if you happy to take the hit/loss on the value of the sdr so you endup with the bike you want, do it

Wish id bought that rc8 engine off ebay a few weeks ago now, would of been an interesting project for me.

I have to admit I wish I still had my 05 SD. I have thrown thousands at the 07 SDR and will never sell it but neither have I ever really bonded with it like I did the 05 that I spent nothing on. I dont miss pushing the bastard when it ran out of fuel (twice) though.

My 05 got sold to Herman ze German in 2008 for 3800.00 quid, it had done 13000 miles. If 05 SDs had followed a linear depreciation I could by a similar one for 2500 quid or so and use it as a track bike. The fact that this isnt the case, and 05/6 SD's still fetch near 4k, would justify keeping yours.

Other than for spec sheet top trumps I dont know if swapping engines is worthwhile. Klincky's old donkey seems to have the legs on an 08 SDR I have ever seen.
