Sell the SD or keep it?

Having got my '06 Model SD in March, I am worried to find myself already thinking about ditching it for a riceburner .

I love the SD at times but I'm not sure I've really gelled with it. I've had a PCIII set up on a rolling road, dropped a tooth of the front sprocket but can't stretch to some after market cans so I'm stuck with still lumpy fuelling.

This isn't my first naked bike but I'm starting to wish for a ZX10/R1!!!. Anyone else had a hard time adjusting to the SD after a full on sportsbike or is it just me?

Should I give up and sell or persist?
would like to offer experienced advice but cant I'm afraid. I've always had naked bikes, Hornet/Buell/SD.....so I love it!!

Only thing I can tell you is apparently the bloke who owned mine for it's 1st 6 months was a Fireblade fan, he was seduced by offers on 06 models and jumped......in the end he traded it in after 6 months for a Fireblade again....
If a mate said to me "im with this lass she is great in bed but just doesn't do it for me" my advice would be "give her one last biffin' and call it a day" I think the same applies.

IMO if you have not gelled by now your never going to.
I haven't had my SD long but my other ride is a K4 GSXR 750 which I've had from new and I love the SD I think it's such a blast to ride, I've done overtakes in places on the country lanes I travel to work that I've never done on the GSXR because I'm not sure I could get round the tight bend at the other end on it but on the SD I didn't even think about it that much.

Obviously everybody likes different things about bikes otherwise we'd all be riding the same bike so it's hard to say what is right for you, personally I'm really happy with the SD it's more comfortable on the A/B roads to work and through the traffic and I love the mid range grunt but I also have the Gixer if I fancy something different or need to do some motorway miles.

Also depends what kind of riding you do too, if you rarely get a chance to ride the twisty backroads and spend most of your time on mainly straight roads you probably won't be getting the benefit out of the SD.
I've been a SS owner for many years and still have and ride my Ducati 998. I have a 2007 SD and so far happy with my purchase. If you haven't gelled with it because it just doesn't excite you and or do it for you then yep dump it. If its because of problems your having such as fueling have you though about an '07? I can understand you missing the power for sure. The engine is nice on the SD but it does lack large balls.
After a long and (not always) distinguished list of bikes I think that perhaps I expected too much of the SD .

The riding position is fantastic the brakes ace, suspension brill but it simply doesn't scare me! The result is that I probably ride it too fast on the A/B roads that form my route to work. But I am missing those "omyf*ckinggod" moments that I used to get at full throttle on my big four cylinder bikes.

The other thing is that I am about to return to commuting to London so most of my future mileage will be my annual overseas jaunts (ie long distance) not B road blasts as at the moment.

There don't seem to be many SD's about 2nd hand so what do your think I'd get for it
Yeah your talking kick in the nuts straight line top speed and that's not really what the SD is gonna give you, although I do feel like my arms are being ripped out of my sockets over 140 though which is quite easy going on the GSXR.

Can't go wrong with a thou for those kind of thrills.

Dealers have been knocking out brand new 06 bikes for around £6995, I paid £5900 for an 05 with 5000 miles on it, going rate seems to be starting around the £6000 mark and then up, have a look on autotrader.co.uk they came and went pretty fast when I was looking for mine though.
You'll take a bit of a loss - but then again, no worse than a similar spell with a Jap IL4.

Just out of interest, do you think you'd have been better off with no PC and dyno time, instead spending the money on some slip-ons?

I need another superduke soon, if you put it up for sale I'll keep my eye out for it.
IMHO you re missing the 9K and above blast from an inline 4. That's all. It's a matter of power distribution. How much time you spend on an IL4 above the 8K margin? That's the question....

Take into account that this blast is "rare" on normal conditions, you only miss the thrill on limited occasions.... unless you do know what you mean and can't comment futher.

I know exactly what you mean, when you need that type of hP delivery?

Track? Drag? When?

Had R1s for 5 years
stick with it fella, i have had all sorts and sold a k6 gixxer 1000 for the sd and it took me a while to get my head around it but it is the best bike i have ever had and ive had a few, MV, GIXXER 750, R6, 05 BLADE, CBR 600rr, as you can see all mine were inline fours and the sd is by far the best. KEEP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
