#15Yeah, you're right CarbonDuker, it is a tough decision. The price on the 09 SD just seems like such a bargain but the dealer is nearly 600 klm's away ( which is the closest V2 dealer ). I have never even sat on an SD so I think I will use the dilema as an excuse to go for a ride. Only problem is I'm working six days a week for the next month and the dealer wants a deposit or else I might miss out, arrghh, the curse of new toy addiction !!
Do you ever carry a pillion on you're SD and if so how does it compare to the SMR ( from the pillion's point of view ) ?? Is it possible to fit some sort of grab rail to an SD ?? ( the other half is always nervous she's going to go over the back ).

#16I recently swapped from an SDR to an SM 950 (also had an 05 SD previously) so have done the opposite of what you're planning.
Pillion on the SD was do-able but better with . Grab rails and stuff look shite on an SD and are hard to fit with anything but stock cans.
The main problem isn't the missus going over the back - she's so close to you she nuts you every time you roll off the throttle or brake

Sd has great points, so does the SMR. Both have downsides too.
SD fuelling is crap at low speeds. SMR's is nicer.
SMR is slow and underpowered compared to a SD... quite considerably to be honest.
Windblast is same on both.
Handling, well depedns what riding position you prefer to be honest. Both are pretty good.

#24Thanks for the feedback Plipton. A lot of what you said confirms what I was suspecting regarding the differences between both bikes. I ultimately decided on the SD, and as stated above am now waiting on the dealer to send me the paperwork so I can get the ball rolling. At the end of the day, the SM/R was probably a slightly more appropriate bike for my current needs, but the SD simply called to me more. And after all, that is what motorcycling is all about right?
