this is for beano..and is beano.. if you go to photobucket.com open an account there and upload your desired pics, then you will have 4 different choices to choose from, choose the "img" at the bottom of the 4, copy it then paste it here in the same place you type the text, you shall become the master of pic's, lemme know if you want me to take it down and I will.

Last (video) post

All video's made with Sony HXR-MC1P

I had this 'expensive' HD camera form about a week om demo and testet it out.

- full HD broadcast quality recording
- uses a memorystick to record about 2 hours
- didnt have the suited mounts so I taped it to my tank and helmet
- a wide angle lens sould be purchased with the unit.
Here is my babe. Not quite finished but does have the ceramic coated headers that i put on yesterday.

Rob, do you see how I did it, look at the link, cut off the unwanted portions and this allowed me to make the link, then ..clicked on the image of the SD, then "save as" (sponge bob's SD), upload it to my photobucket account, next joe used the lowest column and copy and pasted to the writing place, just like that... nothing to click on in here you only have to copy and paste, just remember you have 4 choices, choose the lowest one, top being 1, .. lowest being 4. Do not give up!!

@ KIWI... Woah, did you do track days or can you get the tyre to do that on the street?... Oh, I like your fancy clutch cover too...

Save the stripe cleaning for the track.
No stripes doesnt mean ur fast, only laptimes do.

I dont kneedown or clean my stripes on the road, to mutch that can go wrong. Theres trafic and stuff on the tarmac that can cost my life or even worse, making me see while others ride when im sitting in a wheelchair.

Ride like u want it, u got nothing to prove to anyone.

Do put on your rideing gear tho
Haven't had the bike at the track yet but I've still managed to drag my shift lever and the front corners of my chin fairing. Go figure?

Here is mine on the day I picked it up. I'm now two weeks into ownership and I keep finding reasons to get out and ride. Even honeydo runs. I live in the city and you'd think the off on fueling would discourage me but this bike has whatever that secret ingredient is to make a great Motorcycle it brings smiles to your face on every ride.

First Mod will be a Power Commander since from what I have read on here, it fixes all those low speed fueling issues. Now I just have to work out if there are any places in Toronto to get this device fitted and setup.

ahhh, WOW! man! Excellent! No bling. Black.
Like mine...but now I'm thinking I'm gonna have to do the pipes sometime. I was put off by the negatives when everyone was talking about it, but...it does look good. ...I don't know which nned more, the exhusts or the swingarm. What a good photo!

PS: I don't like the orange buttons, never did, they're not the right orange. One day someone will get them painted the right KTM orange, and that'll start a new craze.
Jody: I dig! Black is good.

Its okey to post more than one pic of your SD in this thread. If you travel to awesome location on your SD, take a snap shot and post it up. Theres nothing wrong with sharing.

Here are some before and after pics. I replaced all the orange plastics with anthracite (except for the headlight mask because it’s a pain and I don’t have time right now) and ceramic coated the headers in titanium finish. The carbon Leo's are loud. Ceramic coated my headers made them even louder. I'm happy with the results.

First post, hello!

Picked this baby up a few days ago... loving it!

Image

Image

I installed a Corbin seat yesterday and its much more bearable than stock, but still kinda stiff. Maybe Im just being a pansy or something.

I also want to get rid of those mickey mouse mirrors but Im not sure that I wanna go the CRG route because they make the bike that much wider.

Loving the FMFs too, they sound great. Definitely not quiet, but they have a great deep rumble and the popping under deceleration is music.

The throttle is indeed horrible... Im getting used to it, but its definitely not what I'd call smooth. Makes modulating it in turns a very difficult process, yesterday I was having a field day doing highway ramps trying to make the bloody thing smooth.

Im also a giant pansy when it comes to leaning the bastard over... definitely not used to the upright riding style.

Some from a 1/4 mile session last month. Not a straight sprint though, in the middle there's a downhill sweeping chicane. It was open to non club members who go into a separate class. Managed 4th out of 26 and got my time down to 11.58. Turns out 16/38 topped out perfectly in 4th across the line at about 118mph!

Went for a run to Sydney via the Hunter valley. Decided to see how she handled the dirt.
Really impressed. Could easily see myself getting into trouble with the over confidence she inspires.

Went and had the bloody oil pressure sender wire fixed for teh 2nd time. My daisy chaining cable ties around the radiator hose and up to the frame to pull it off the wire proved to the dealer that it was a shorting issue. They re-routed the wire between the two radiator hoses so all is well.
Image[/img]

This is probably just as well since my mates were getting too many opportunities to stir me up when I'd chuck another wobbly when the oil pressure ligth would flicker on.

Here's their last effort.

Hi mate,
They are the Alpinestars GPX gloves, cool colour. Protected me well in the ensuing crash..
I now have the Alpinestars S1 gloves that are the same colour but offer a bit more wrist protection. I'd probably choose the S-1 over the GPX as the closing mechanism is a bit better and looks are slightly better..

However, the GPX ones are short cuff and easier to use with just a jacket..

Never mind the colour in these pictures they are both pretty similar..

Heres some of my new 08

Just had touring screen fitted this week, has helped already with the wild winds down here in Melbourne recently!

I'm 6'2" so it does offer a bit more protection, though I'll remove it once weather gets warmer.

Had a mixed day at Oran Park. Three rear end loses on left handers put the wind up me in the first session. Chain oil on the tyre was the problem.
Threw that (new) brand in the bin. Lots of riders went down and two in my garage. Too much time spent worrying about scratching the new toy.

Its a great bike! I'm so glad I didn't get a crotch rocket.
England, france, switzerland, italy, spain and andorra. 12 days 3000 miles, no motorways exc. england, best roads I've ever ridden.

Warped disc, speedo read 402 kph for a day, broke down twice with fooked rectifier (lost 2 days, but got sorted at shit bike shop!!!).
Dropped bike for first time .
Got toes down for first time (not when I dropped it )
Vacume hose thing popped off cylinder head leaving me running on one cylinder (had me panicked and puzzled for a few minutes)

fook it though, I wouldn't have wanted to do it on any other bike.

A few of far too many pics.

I've still got a few things to do, I have a spare swingarm and headers that will get the stealth black treatment at some point.

Still need to junk the SAS and get a proper custom map sorted with the motobox.
Oh, and my clutch cover is looking a bit ratty after a couple of winter's abuse. A nice moto cover would be nice, but I may wait for a more favourable exchange rate for that one!
black swingarm and headers would finish that very nicely. I really fancy doing my swingarm but don't like the idea of the bike being off the road for days

I just bought the KTM a couple days ago. Have run 7888km, 2005 model.
fitted with carbon fiber tank, spoilers, etc.. the battery-casing-thing is plastic on the picture, but I have the carbon fiber thing laying here.

hi-res picture from the other side here: http://dump.andersh.dk/P1000492.JPG

bought it without test-driving it. Drove 50km yesterday, fantastic bike!
Please somebody tell me how the fook to post pics in the body of a post? I'm pulling my hair out, all I can do is post a link. I'm on a mac and I'm using Flicker.

Nice photo shoot. I think those hills look familiar...Barfer.
As far as I know there is only one sping kit for all the SD versions, standard and R... What makes the difference is the setup made by the specialist who installed the system.
The sping are the ones with the Hyperprogressive patented technolgy by Hyperpro and are full progressive, along the whole stroke.

Now the bike is softer on the road, you can feel more confidence when braking and leaning and when hitting bumps or holes wether you are on a straight or bent line... IMHO a huge improvement, far from the standard setup. The fork oil il SAE10 and the level is @ 140mm . Is also a good setup for track use if not seeking to squeeze the ultimate time lap. In that case compression and rebound shuld be tightened, while the preload not.
A side effect is that you can use the tyres with a higher pression also on the track, so that they are firmer, they last longer and better!

My better spent money as for the Motobox and the Akrapovic!!

Ok, so I worked out how to put up a piccie.

1st Start with one of these,

The very wet day I rode it home.........ahhhhh.
Then add some Round Akro's.

2nd Change these,
[img]
There's two things wrong with this picture. 1 was fixed under warranty, the other probably voided it

3rd Starting to look a bit more lke it now.

To stop the pop!

4th Add one of these

God these sound good. Then chuck on a cheeky PC111 usb.

Then end up looking like this
Image
Still a work in progress. Suspenders next, then .................

Finally putting out a very respectable, corrected, rear wheel figure of..

Hope you like. Will post more as and when I change.

Ouch...

dumb? yes, in the category live and learn I guess...
To ride a bike in this weather is a real dumbass thing to do If that's the only transport you have then needs must but to do it through choice is not a good move
Can't agree with that - I've been riding all year round for the last thirty years and this is the first time I've been off on ice - I ride everyday 'cos I want to, not because I have to, and accept the risks - sometimes the risks become reality.

Bike repaired today and I will be back out tomorrow.
I've ridden threw a couple of winters to, but always had a cheap second 4cilinder bike for that, a bike that rides comfortable without to be mindfull of how you ride it. Would not take my SD in these conditions

(although I read on this forum the SD is a good chrasher )

Overlook of Anza Borrego State Park from route 79 out of Julian, California. Can you please record some video with the sound, and some light reving of the engine?
How much does the MIVVs cost? Looks very good

Thanks guys but she's not my lady. A model who let us take photos with the bike as part of a fundraising event organised by the local Motorbike Club. They raised $6000 from washing 150+ bikes and taking photos of 100 bikes with or without model. It all goes to Spinal research and rehabilitation.

Here's a link if you wanna see some other bikes but mine was the only SuperDuke there!

Chicken strips you guys are as obsessed with them as is everyone else. Shit it I felt like I needed to get rid of them they would be gone. But they are not!

Admittedly I do too much commuting on my bike but hopefully will get out on some more twisties soon. Trakday coming up next weekend so mission remove Chicken Strips will be in full swing!

Oh and I love my Duke!

Here is mine. I've posted t here before, but last week I installed Akras, a Rizoma fender eliminator and Zero-11 turn signals and BikeMonkey integrated tail light. I took these pics on Feb 27. Originally this was a black R, but I like white and I converted it after I bought a white plastics set from a retailer in Germany. The Akra map is awesome and made a huge difference in smoothness. I loved it before, but now it's like crack on two wheels.

Don't want to bragg about the weather as I wish all of you a ride in the sun! Hope it clears up in Europe and the states soon!

A shot by a road side photographer from a couple weeks ago.

Image

Was totally stoked @ the reflection in my visor.
Higher res available if anyone cares
So first day of spring and I finally get a 300+ mile ride. Package going really well with all the winter mods finished. Main ones are Motobox, PC111, SAS junked and shortened Akras converted to carbon sleeves.

Getting custom map on Tuesday so I will be very interested in seeing the first run because bike appears to be flawless fueling as is (on Akra map and whatever the PC111 came with a s base setting).

After getting used to the bike again on full throttle I think I need a shorter action throttle. And a steering damper - had a few 120mph shakes on bumpy A roads and the bike is definitely giving more torque as it goes front end light a lot more in second gear hard acceleration. I have resisted one up to now and followed the endless debates about them here but if you ride fast on UK roads I think you need one.

Or maybe it was just my enthusiasm.

Image
Image
There is a damper on ebay off a SDR ?
Buy now £399 I think
Is that a BIG chicken strip in the middle ? Ha
That's right!

I live on a roundabout and I went straight away for the twisties and managed to find a route where I was leaned over the whole time! I don't think I ever went straight for more than 100 metres - and then I weaved about bit.

In my dreams.........

I'm watching that. It's cheap for a new damper and mounting kit. But then again it's a lot of money. I've also been searching for a Scotts damper and they make this look cheap!! I have to find a way to explain it to Amy - but she was in Southhampton this weekend and went clothes shopping. So when she gets back I need to find out how much she spent because maybe, just maybe, I could justify this. Best way is to explain that it makes riding a bit less of a risk with one fitted. It's a safety feature isn't it? Like a dayglo belt really. If I say that the police recommend them......

sweet bike....if it wasnt for the r versions white would be my fav

i think a couple of people would like to know how "comfortable" that R gel seat is ....
I am more curious to see how much more you can move around on the R seat assembly. One of the only things that I do not like about my SD is the fact that the front end of the seat is so wide. Makes it a little difficult to move around on the bike when ripping through the twisties...

The R-seat is not uncomfortable, it's just hard. There's a distinct difference. It's very wide, so it doesn't feel like you're flossing your butt-hole. There's no problems with moving around on it. The only real complaint I have about it is that it's quite slippery. Solutions to that is sticky leathers and/or to put some sticky residue on the seat. Or stomp-grips.

And keep in mind, it's "", not "Custom", not "GT", not "Gold Wing".... R..!! R!! It's not supposed to be "comfortable".
So if you're an "All show - No Go" there's your punishment already.

Looking good Millar
Nice to see no orange to slow things down. I used to have a Ducati with white wheels - It makes you realise how much oil is sort of vapourized from the chain area and sprayed over your back wheel - and the road dirt - even on dry summer days. You have to wipe them down before EVERY ride! It becomes an obsession.

Yeah it's a downhill S.

The videos don't really do it justice but from the start the finish is completely blind. I start in the right lane then come right in really close to the left on the crest then from the top just try to make it as straight as possible. Even over the finish you're still leaned over. It definitely separates the men from the boys.

Here's another one... Never to cold to ride!

Image
This is me after waiting 3 hrs for a pick-up after being stranded approximately in the middle of bumf*k nowhere. No cell phone reception, not much traffic. One of the guys I was riding with had to ride half hr back up the rd to get reception and organise the pick-up.
Luckily, it was a nice day and I had another riding companion to keep me company.
The guy turns up with the trailer and pulls a six pack out of the car "I bet you guys are thirsty!" damn straight.
Done the starter motor torque limiter.. we had stopped to wait for a friend who wasn't that far behind, admirable effort for a 600, and she just didn't start again, lots of clacking and bad noises. Tried to bump start several times with no luck, what a bitch that was.
Anyway, she is in the shop now and I expect to have it back in the garage soon.
Wouldn't give her up for anything.

Image
Sorry to hear about the bad luck.

I thought it was great he bought the beer until I saw it was XXXX Gold I kid I kid I used to drink it quite alot when I worked in Queensland. Nice refreshing beer.

by the sound of it I'll need to find a mate with a trailer or get one of my own!

My wife thinks I'm a poser what she doesnt realise is I am in traffic and taking the opportunity to get a good photo!

I thought it was a pretty good effort seeing as it was the first time with the Duke at the track and I only made it to the 2nd round before deciding I needed a lie down!

For those of you who missed it heres how it ended the interesting bit is at 9:30 pity it wasnt more exciting I was just getting into and one or two mistakes later.

Oh and for the chicken strip lovers I have no strips left at all on either side even before I binned it. maybe that was why?

Full Akra, DNA, PCIII, Motohooligan Airbox, RG tidy & crash mushies, Eyeshot indies, KTM Powerparts seat, carbon hugger, 40T rear sprocket, suspension sorted by HMRacing, Skidmarx screen, Cycle Control Rearset Adjustors, Pilot Pures...

More to follow...

wow, very nice.
Don't forget, you need a radiator protector.
And Cycle Control levers.
I'm thinking the KTM anodised clutch cover looks good. If you scrape it, you've got the original...instead of scraping a 2RT cover or Rizoma cover that costs more than the original part. (ok, maybe the point is to keep the oil in so it doesn't go the racetrack.)
PS: The KTM anodised covers, are they replacement engine side cases or they mount over the originals like protectors?
The hugger and the carbon front mudguard are from...?

So you've got a G11. Nice.
Hayd-man - good photo!

I like the Yoshimuras.
How much more comfortable is that KTM seat over the stock one?
Very neat Dutch. The squishey seat makes all the difference on a ride out doesn't it. Expensive but best value power part that I've invested in.

Grendel quite likes what you have done Brent. The only change he would make would be rather drastic, but he would grind off the passenger peg hangers to make it a smoother line.

But he loves the spare simplicity of your changes.

the first pictures were taken with my d300 and on camera fitted sb-800, i wanted something to show the SD but it had to be away from the norm. For the others (not the wheelie or burnout;) ) i used a couple of flahguns fired wirelessly with soft boxes fitted. i can get it all in a smallish rucksack so can pretty much ride anywhere i feel like. the hardest part is finding the time...

Hey emu, how's the footage from ur gopro mounted on the fork? get a lot of vibes?
I finally got a good group ride in on the Superduke today. The weather was most excellent here in Santa Cruz Cali! On my bike was the newly installed Motohooligan box with the secondary flies, sas removal, and crash bungs. I also tested the CRG Arrow mirror. I was quite impressed with the mirror, lots of visibility and stable. It's true what they tell you about the motohooligan box! It certainly does smooth out the throttle. Bike felt way different going into and exiting corners and is much more tolerable at slow pace city riding. The Motohooligan Box is by far the best mod I have done to my bike. I'm still running the stock cans and haven’t remapped yet, but there is definitely a noticeable improvement.

Hi all. I'm new here. Wanted to show mine off. 08 Superduke, repainted Lava Candy Red from a 2004/5 R1(big difference between colours in low light and direct sunlight) with white stripe decals - supposed to be an Austrian flag tribute but nobody seems to get it - nevermind! Regeared to 16:39 final drive ratio using Renthal sprockets and piped with LeoVince allys and a KTM remap. Running Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's for winter grip - otherwise as stock. Filthy in these photos, but isn't that the point?

These are my pair of twins, waiting for the weekend thats my birthday and thats when the new insurance starts and I can then pick and choose which one to take, depending on mood. If she's been goin on about stuff to do around house/I dont tell her that I love her (enough)/Kids doin my head in then the sd will do. However if I've left my trainers lying around or got mud on the carpet then its serious, and I will then need the sdr, simples.

For now. I haven't ridden it with the new wheels, tyres, rotors and pads yet. I'm taking her out on her maiden voyage tomorrow. The Oberon clutch slave actually feels stiffer than the stock. Perhaps it needs to break in.

Hey Maddog,

Do you have any drawings of the Tri-Valley mod or is this something they just do from their heads?

I still have my spare swing arm all cleaned ready for a mod, I have a supplier in the UK who will do the welding but I need to give them a drawing or plan for the mod so they can quote me a figure. I can do one myself but I need to find the time and I'm really bust at work at the moment. I have the pictures of Go-Go's machine, this is all I have to work from.
Those guy's at Tri-Valley may share the info I would give it a shot,,, they may just shoot you over the info, sketches what have you,,,,GO-GO say's this mod worked for him, and he noted the difference,, can't help to think it must feel "solid" with power going to the ground in a linear way , as he put it,,,,I have yet to contact them myself regarding this mod but soon,,
The photos I have - they are quite detailed and the mod is not exactly scientific. It looks like a relatively straightforward job of tubular bracing - the main thing being to position the sub-bracing to clear the chain run.

I think I will do the drawings myself.

There is some seriously tricked-up metal on this page. I think I have wheel envy.
So who does the best rim stripes? loads on Ebay, had some in the past that go brittle really quickly then start to flake off. Any rated by you guys?
Mike the bike is looking sweet. I can't wait to get heeled up so we can ride together again.

Rob the helmet was actually covered by my insurance. It's required by law so they cover it. they had me buy a comparable helmet and fax them the receipt. a week later I had a check. the best part is i got my Arai for $200 from someone on here but it was over $600 new.

Preey,
Where you getting your tank panel stickers and are you going for standard size and style.

As I have had my panels repainted and finding it a nightmare to find the decal for the panels in the right size unless i use the stealers and they want loads for them

Many thanks

2008 SD...it's a standard model with an R motor. Made a couple of upgrades including a motobox (best thing ever for this bike), FMF Apex slip-ons, and new rear spring for my weight. I really like the look of the R model so if I can figure out a way to get a seat that won't feel like a plank after 100 miles I might put that on it as well. I also need some crash protection and might change up the mirrors. It's a work in progress.

I'm painting my headlight bucket. While i was at it couldn't help but move things around . I would love to mount the guages right where they are in this photo -
Image

I've also thought about doing the headlight bucket swap thing but next photo i'd like to keep the KTM windscreen but it would be mounted just a bit higher than stock as in photo. Just a simple bracket to make if loosing the headlight bucket. Image

the only issue i've had with all the aftermarket headlight stuff is can't find one that keeps the transparent windscreen - and i like the KTM one.... If i loose the Bucket would be really easy to mount a light there . The other easy step would be to make a cover the for wiring box that's all behind the stock headlight. And finally doing this would take moving the ignition switch to the spot right in front of the ECU and mount it sideways in there ( enough wiring already there to do so )....

Anyway just my thoughts for now. Gona paint bucket and put back stock for now.
some guys Cringe at the thought of modifying a perfectly good stock bike - i don't LOL

Missing when I got the bike, I cant see a problem with it not being there as its only a thin steel strap not actually doing anything much from the way its mounted,

They are from KTM PowerParts catalog. So I guess brembo made them.
Today changed flat bars from LSL, reverse gear set and G2 quickthrottle
So just got back from about 70 miles round trip rippin it ..... Cord showing last 4 rides - yup mistake i know ... Was at 120mph uphill today on this rear tyre - the cord lengthened itself by about 8 inches - was only half that size before this latest romp...

I tried to do as KTM GUY suggests and wear the sides out before the middle , but i just have a hard time staying off the throttle on this bike. slightly over 2 months ago i bought this tyre and said "i'm going to go easy on the straights" so i can wear the sides first ---- Well that sure didn't happen.... i think i got about 3,000 miles out of it though ... I like the tyre - Dunlop Q2's the new ones. And the deal on them lately 200 bucks for a set is hard to pass up , and i've never had the tyres give while hard cornering ,

Really getting used to reverse shifting , My unasked for advice to anyone going to put the reverse shift kit on is -DO NOT try racing around through twisties etc until you're sure yu have all the reflexes , and mistake proof nerve patterns before you start ripping ... I ride quite a bit of serious twisties and today was my 7th outing on reverse shifting .. I"m just about up to speed.

have fun

Image

i forgot to mention - i encourage any of you eager eaters ( like i am ) to loose the weight - i have lost about 10 lbs from 200 to 190 on my 5'8" whole inches of body and i tell you the bike's acceleration is getting quicker , i'm gona shoot for another 10 lbs and get down to 180 lbs....

Bike really seems to be enjoying it (-:

Guy on the MV made a complete mess how to attack corners. He was holding back the group all by himself. I told our instructor to put him in the beginners group and the lowest level. We were in the fastest group and were glad when he was convinced it was going much too quick for him. After that we had a lot of fun.

Seems like you would have to convert the whole back end to an SDR for that to fit. But ya I can see it lowering the seat height by about 3/4". Going to be one hard seat though. As far as the pods go they are bad ass. Once I can figure out if the PCV will fit right then I will order it and go get a custom tune . Untill then I'm running a pretty rich tune and it's running really good.

Yeah, yeah, gotta take off the reflectors. Any tips on how to do it without scratching the fork legs would be appreciated.
hair dryer and just pull them off.... rub any of the left over goo into a ball with your finger... no scratches... nice photosbtw... the orange SD's and the white SDR's are my favourite.
Sweet.

I really should take some of mine, as I ride in similar views, but am always enjoying myself too much....

Maybe next time when I'm over by Loch Ness I might remember to take some. Will be next year though.

Is that where Ducati Pete got his rims..?
I heard they were mint green
I think if it had a couple of "Penton" logo's on the tank it would be a 990 Penton,,,just need's a silver frame,,,IMO,,
Would look nicer with gold wheels I think, the green wheels are just a bit too much

Frame is interesting, are those welded on crash bars

Think it looks alright. There were plenty "Dukes" that colour.

Maybes a bit "Overegged". Should've stayed black wheels though with perhaps green/white/orange rimtape.
Needs a purple frame. The wheels would look better in black or maybe purple if the frame was purple.

I was surprized by the small rear sprocket.
I think the gearing was set back to roadable.
I like it and I had a Cowie green DukeII I found good looking.
Do like the idea of an introduction of purple, then it would screal kowie.

Took a few decals off it to clean up the look a bit too.

It just keeps getting better and better everytime Viking! Very nice bike!
I would have personally blacked out the rear brake lever too.
I'll have to buy spare gear and brake levers very soon. Been hanging back watching eBay for black sdr ones. KTM are a bit crazy with their prices for them. I did think about sending those old silver ones but couldn't be bothered taking the bearings out and in. They're scraped up anyway so don't look too great.

First ever track day yesterday. Duke was fantastic fun. Now I am really hooked!

The latest state of mine after its first proper clean in 2 months. Dunlop Sportsmarts on, Powerparts chain and 40t sprocket and monoblocs up front. Akrapovics back on unfortunately as the Leo Vinces had to retire

Image
What do you think of the Sports Smarts......
Impressed so far. Didn't get as much time on track as I wanted but they gripped more than any other fast road tyre I've used. They got very hot and sticky in the Pyrenees too. Going to use them for two more days on track in early July as well.

That's coz the front pressure is right and the rear is too low mate.

They're not the same as motorsport handmade N Techs.

Hot pressures of Sportsmarts on an SD 32 front 30 rear. Will grip ok and won't tear up.

Just of top of my head without checking my notes I'm sure cold pressures are usually 4psi lower.

Bit of topic like

Just for comparison...
Those Interacts I sent, the rear had very slight cold tear. It only took 2psi more pressure to get it running clean.

There's how the new ones look running just 2psi more. Don't even look like they've been on track.

Image
Viking - I have run the dunlop rears at 25 hot in Spain with good results.
Sportsmarts or D211's though?

I had probs with the Sportsmars running them at N Tech pressures and couldnt work it out. After a bit of battling with the rep managed to get some info saying they are a different carcass from true N Tech D211 gp's. Think Dunlop are just trying to market them off the back of all the great N Tech reviews by adding the name to the tyre.

Same as the Interacts K1 K2 are a different tyre to the Intreact K3. The K3 has a different carcass.
Sorry, D211 Ntec slicks. NOT the mega bucks motorsport ones.

Yeah the yoshis are excellent. I'm running them without the db killers at the moment . Tried them with them but it didn't seem to have quite as much of a top end power band. Not sure if its just physiological because they're quieter.

Hold your horses, no reason to get these parts involved

I just think big strips are a waste of potential fun which I'd like everybody to have

Besides that, knowing how far the bike can go only adds to safety when another driver does something stupid or theres something on the road you need to evade in the middle of a corner.

No need to call me a nazi for that (these live in the country left to mine )

Post missing

This post could not be recovered from the original forum.

20 stone,,20 stone,,,what exactly is "20 stone",,,,, 20 stone= now is the time for Jenny Craig and how much "higher" could you go
14lbs = 1stone so 20 stone = 280lbs yes call jenny call Jenny now!
That doesn't look like 20 stone to me. Not the slimmest rider I've ever seen but not 20 stone.
Remember, black is a slimming colour!
LOL
Gives em lots of room to increase HP for the bike - every 5 or 6 lbs removed from either the bike or the body is like 1 hp right (-:

i'm just doing some quick math here - i weigh 180lbs if this guy truly weighs 280 lbs that's 100 lbs more than me --- that could be like making a 125 hp superduke feel like a 100 hp superduke - hummmmmm

Just saying --- this is the reason i lost weight - went from 200 lbs to 180 - could stand to loose another 10 if i wanted (-:

Here she is, just took a few crappy cell pics. I really like how the orange has a green flake in it, and the sound that comes out of those MIVV cans ffs. I'm going to order the db killers for long trips, since right now the bike makes Harley riders quake in their boots.

Sweet bike there Aphex. Glad you like the MIVVs too. Where are you riding without dbkillers FFS? I only remove mine for TD's. You lucky bugger.

Thank you!, I'm in Southern California it's almost time to put the liner back in my jacket Is Singapore pretty strict with db limits?
Not yet, but it's coming. It's more a neighbourly responsibility as everywhere is high rise and sound gets bounced around and people complain. Unfettered MIVVs here are asking for trouble. Having said that, my last Sepang TD was in September and I only just dropped em back in....

My "new to me" (ex Arron's & sumojoe's bike) SD-R...rescued from Colorado.
Yesterday was first time to really put a few miles on and must say riding it is like swimming with a White Shark in full on attack mode...and surviving!! This is what a motorcycle is supposed to be like!!

Yep, an Angel ST and no burnouts just 1271 miles in my hands. They looked pretty new when I got the bike and the previous owner claimed he had only done 300 miles on them........:. I realy hope he was lying! If not that back tyre was gone in 1571 miles and that would be rubbish. Funny enough the front has loads of tread left so I fitted another Angel and we'll see if that lasts any longer. I've used all makes of tyre over the years and never had one go down to the carcass as quick as this one did!
Less than 2000 miles for a sport-touring tyre is plain unthinkable and I personally know that the Angels last much much longer, at least 10,000 miles and usually more.
But every now and then comes up someone with some Pirelli tyre (may it be the Angels or Diablo Rosso\Diablo Corsa III) that after not too much miles in it's belt ended up like yours.
This is mine, on the left corniche of the Verdon... just 4 hours before a french idiot hit me with his suzuki bking... now my SD is on repair... damage list is at 9.000 euro... Image

In Italy if the value of the bike is less than the damage the insurance pays you the Eurotax value, so you can buy yourself a similar used bike, like the old beloved you couldn't repair. Then you have to destroy the bike in an authorised center (i.e: you give to the center the frame, the plate and the certificate of ownership and so the bike officially isn't existent any more). Then again with all the stuff you've streaked from your ex-bike you fund the purchase of a used bike like yours or a new one. So I have to choose between a 2008 SD, a SD-R 132 or (hopefully) an Aprila Tuono V4... who knows... The only problem is the big loss of time... two months have been passed and i wonder how many other will, before I'll get my money from the French insurance... Image

Hope to have a bike for the two days KTM Test'N'Track in Mugello Circuit at the end of March...

Dutch's bike is a winner,,,,but I think the best lookin ride ,,,was,,is,,,,"FAST ORANGE AND BLACK",,,it just looks super,,,,,,what a build by a great bloke Paul where are you
Winter projects done ? Hey ! Winter just started, but I have been busy. Got the solo kit mounted on an orange painted sub frame. Waiting on some CF fenders and heal guards from Adam. E-mailed him yesterday and he has 7 pieces to do before he gets to mine. Got a steering dampner installed, WP mounted down under, KTM tank protector for the jacket zippers....
Got another project going on my KTM 950 Adventure. Making a rear lugage / crash bar. Got a 7/8 tube fastened from the buddy peg , bent and wrapped all the way around the back to the tail light and back to the other buddy peg. It's supported from the tail luggage pad by 3/8 tube, welded up and painted last night. I cad'ed up a new tail rack Monday. Need to make some chips. I will make some side panels from aluminium sheet that spans between the rack and the crash bars. Then I will make 4 dry bags 24 inches x 7 inch diameter to strap to the sides snuggly. The top rack tail bag will be expandable up to 14 inches tall, but will live at 7 tall when not carrying...supplies to the camp site

I will have to say I really enjoied Pauls build...little to fussy for the likes of me. I end up using my tools to the max. It sure was fun to follow his build and really set the hook in me to become addicted to this KTM site. Thanks Paul !
Keep on wrenchin', winter will end before you know it

Dirt roads ,,,no coppers,,,,,hummmmmmmmmm,,,,sounds real good,,,,,
Yep, dirt roads are big time fun. Been doing it for years. Honda XR650R is a hoot and not such a big deal when you over shoot a corner. KTM 950 is a bigger hoot but more of a concern when you over shoot a corner. These LC8's have some mass. But what a fire hose of gravel spray comes from the big KaTooms. And the no cops factor is a huge plus . If you have to ask why, you will not understand.
Last dirt bike of "mass" I thromped on was a Yankee Ossa "Z",,,(been a while),,,but it was very fast through the woods,,,,had an open stretch of the Tennessee gas pipeline to run it on,,could go 100 if you chose to do it,,,
My 650 XRR goes over 100. OSSA Yankee That was rare as hens teeth. A 2 smooker V twin You must be a old fart too I got my first ride on a modern dirt bike back in 1972 on a new OSSA Pantom ?. I had a HD Super 10 at the time. My brother inlaw let me ride his new bike and I did what you do on a dirt bike..hauled ass. I got back and I was really jassed. Wow !
It had brakes, suspension and power. Then he chew my ass for riding it the way I did. Fookin pissed me off, and never asked him for anything again. He does have the bragging rights of beating Malcom Smith.
My brother and his brother in law rode enduos. There was a sound check at the start. They would fasten tyre intubes to thier tail pipes long e-nuf to drag on the ground to quite the bikes down. When the got out of sight of the marshels they woud run over the other guys intertube with thier front wheels which would pull the tubes off for more power.
500 Yankee,,vertical twin,,,,you could set up the crank for any fireing order, this one was set up "big bang" with both barrels fireing together,,,whhoo hoo had to watch out when starting it though as it would start up backwards all the time hole shot would get you in the nut's theres a nice one one this site for sale,,he's had like seven for sale I think,,,rare bird fer sur,,,,,,

Cool
NICE
Thanks guys.
Got my cast off and kwires removed last week, so whilst I still have a messed up left hand I couldn't resist and took the new SD, (new to me) out for a run. Removed the original mirrors and put on a new set of barend mirrors that arrived yesterday.

Now, it can't be just me, but does anyone else just turn into a nutter when they get on one of these??? I couldn't help myself, popping wheelies out of intersections (it actually makes me look good at them ) Every hump in the road I would give it a blip and up it would come. I jumped it off a lip in the road in town like a dirtbike It is so damn easy to ride like a big dirtbike. I threw it into some corners and I swear I could pick the front end up whilst changing direction. The only thing I would like for it is a steering damper as it felt a bit squiggly at times.

You've basically put together the Racing version featured in the KTM brochure.
Leeroy, it will look so much better when it gets sprayed black by the next owner . It hurts my eyes like it is, in fact, over in Box Hill direction I can see a glow over the horizon caused by this brashness of colour. It's like a mobile traffic cone or one of those luminous floats you need for night time fishing.

Got the 1290 SDR race mask onto the bike today. Officially ready for the track and one step closer to having the prototype, just got to paint the mount black and the plate a proper white and a few other minor things and I think the bike will finally be done.

Really want to find a way to cut a hole in it and mount a dimmable LED light in it to see if I can ride it on the road (and get away with it) with this look but we will see if that possible later on.

Did you ride through that? Would have fuggin hurt like hell.
Great pic. NSW?
Yep NSW Australia.
We were on the Thunderbolts way near Walcha, Rain turned into some pretty crazy hail & caught us out.
Pretty damn slippery as you might imagine! rode a little way thorugh it but decided to just wait a while for it to melt.

Looked like it was snowing, havent ever seen hail like that before!

Image

Image
We had a massive hail storm in Perth a few years ago and left the amazing smell of eucalypts in the air after all the trees had been shredded.
All the cars in the car park were trashed but with the SD being predominately plastic was ok, all it did was knock my mirror out of alignment.

Nice one, the engine protector looks pretty good. Very subtle, can't even tell its there.
maximus: have a save trip, but i would mount the stock exhaust in Germany or put the baffles in.
With some bad luck they won't let you ride the bike any further if it's too loud
Is that a growler exhaust? Is the sound any different than stock?

Have a good trip!

Cheers!
I am quite impressed with the engine guard as said very subtle and is doing the job so far! (In Belgium at the mo!) I will wait a while for aftermarket belly pans etc see what comes out but for now its worth letting that plate take a beating instead of the engine.

Finally finished my mods for the indicators.
I wasn't a fan of the R&G tail tidy so that was removed which also meant losing the number plate holder and the indicators.
As previously mentioned, I made my own plate holder and then thought out the idea i had for mounting the nano indicators.
After a bit of time here's the result.

A tidier rear end...

Barend mirrors, tail tidy, and the best mod - decat pipe! I am afraid to change the exhaust now in fear that the sound will not be so good.
Also, changed to a much lesser rear tyre, since it gave up mid trip and had to change to what was available.
Oh, and sorry for it beeing a "smartphone photo".
Comrade Verners: That photo seems to be private.
Please ignore the fender. Eliminator is in the mail

Nice Dave! Tell us more about what you've done.
Spotted an Orange 1290 just down from the Spanish steps in Rome region EB51802. Anyone from here? Oh and take it back to the dealer you have an oil leak.

Actually only spotted 2 950SM's and a couple of baby dukes whilst here, not much in the way of big bikes at all and with the cobble stone streets its not surprising.
Romans invented a lot of shit but you can see why the didn't invent the sport's bike.
Got the PP tail tidy on and my comfort seat came in. Could do without the huge KTM POWERPARTS logo...

MY SD FINALLY ARRIVED YESTERDAY - SUPER EXCITE

Image

I have lil mirrors, Yoshi zorst, Rotti box etc to go on as soon as rego is sorted.
It came with a lot of carbon bits, (mask, front guard, heel guards, cowl, front sprocket cover...) not sure about all that carbon. I might try to tone it down a bit.
Image
But it certainly brings out the best in me; I was riding it pretty conservatively yesterday as it had no plates and got the front wheel up a couple of times punting around town. Also did a cheeky garage burnout in celebration.

Here's mine, just started with the mods, nothing done yet so plenty to go at

Image

i still dont get sick of this thing... nothing really stock about it... from the ohlins cartridge internals, 132hp at the wheel, quickshifter, steering dampener... the lot

rips up a mountain pass like its on rails... Ive had this bike for nearly 6 years and it is the only vehicle that i have actually kept for more than a year (always had 2-3 motorbikes, the others keep getting churned over but this one stays).

I may get a 1290 in the future when they sort out the quality issues.. but it will be to go in the garage next to this...

fook the neighbour but. I'm a right guys?

Here's my 990 at work. The fmfs are stupidly loud by the way but i bought it like that and that's just the way it is.
Perfect justice for anyone with their "fook the neighbors" mentality on loud exhaust would be for their neighbors to blasts whatever music they hate. All while thinking that they have the best taste in music and everyone should be in heaven getting to partake in their glorious taste in music. But, if they don't like their taste in music fook em!
Also, I would like to add, I think a lot of aftermarket exhaust looks much better! And great weight saving and who could be against added performance? Just wish they didn't have to be so loud.
My SD is my revenge weapon for any c0ck head playing loud (shit) music late at night with that base really loud. What these micro brains don't realise is that the ooompph ooomppph caries for miles while at their party you can't really hear it.
They also don't realise that I'm used to get up at 5 am and I'm happy to do a few hot passes in their street with the headers on only at that time of the day. The other neighbours love it!
Yea the oomph, oomph music people are the loud pipe equivalent people. So we should respect their "fook the neighbors" attitude, and just yell "Yea thats what I say, fook the neighbors. You guys are awesome and fooking rock! It is so great to have more with my mentality on this planet. fook em!!!"
As I said on TDR dude I do like the look you've gone for. Never seen a rear end like that on an SD. Very original. Have fun at Carty

Thank you for kind words. Exhaust system was installed by previous owner and by the looks of it, i'd say it is either Akrapovic original or some universal part, or maybe it comes off the same r1 as the exhausts did, honestly don't know.

Looking good.

Is it really loud?

Did you get the Akrapovic map or PCV?

Is there going to be any issues with ground clearance on full lean?
I think it's really loud. Having akras on my 990 with the db killers removed, it feels to me this is a lot louder than that. It may have something to do with where the exhaust exits when sitting on the bike. Only a proper meter would tell. I need to get hold of one. I've tried both the 35mm and 50mm insert and the difference seems marginal, but the 35mm is smoother at low revs.

I haven't got the map yet but it's on the agenda to be done in the next few weeks.

There may be an issue at full lean as it sits as far out as the pegs do, and obviously lower too, but I don't think it would be a problem for me any time soon.

Short video after putting the 50mm insert in. Was early in the morning and didn't want to piss the neighbours off so nothing at full throttle. I'll do another one soon.

Not mine but the best looking 1290 I have yet seen.

Haven't seen it posted here yet so thought I would do the honours. Clink bought it to my attention, stylistically it's more or less what I hope to end up with on my 990 project when it's finished.

Tarting up the beast a little bit

Well spotted Heipaal
indeed, the original "special (green) edition" has a white frame to go with it.
i bought it like this tho, and to be honest, i like it better with a black frame. :p

i'm still gonna do some adjustments here and there.
specially to the handlebars/grips/levers/etc.
but overall i went with this one because of the unique looks.
the dealer also had some plain black and plain white ones from the same year and around the same price range.
but this one just popped out to me
I have a white frame as well. I kinda like it
yeah! it's just a matter of personal preferance really..
and with black fairings, the white frame stops it from becomming a black mass a bit.
i think yours looks rad like this too

Dude, where do you live???? My buddy had to get evacuated yesterday. he lives in Oak Hills. I don't think his house is there anymore. He lives just on the other side of where that RV park was just off the oak hill exit.
I'm right off main and the 15 on the east side of the freeway. It's getting pretty crazy up here, the fire is only 15 miles from my house.

Hopefully your friends house is still there, lots of houses in Oak Hills off Oak Hills rd were saved. Same with Pinion Hills, it's amazing how fast this fire spread. 30,000 acres in 24 hours.

Had a nice ride yesterday, Hesperia through Idyllwild, Palm springs, indio, Joshua tree and the 247 back home. Just happened to roll over 30,000 miles too.

Off for the Superduke's first MOT today, three years old already and 17,000 miles of fun.

I'm still trying to get to 500 miles, to book my first service and get redline moved up to a more normal position!

I've had the week off, but generally the weather has been poor, but this weekend was quite nice and I got out to ride a little!

Oh, and a week back I installed my AustinRacing can too.

couldn't figure out how to embed it. the "youtube" button above the editing box didn't work and tried the "share" and "embed" from youtube. Took a quick look on the site here to see if I was missing a sticky or something and just decided to post the link. lol..

just rolled over 25,000 miles... I think. Instrument panel went out
Nice wheels! What brand are they, and what's the weight difference compared to stock wheels?

thanks! They look fantastic!
I'm almost done with mods to my `17 Superduke except for adding a LSL drag bar and maybe new mirrors. I'm loving it. The handling is awesome after dropping 34 pounds of parts-weight and the Arrow Ti DeCat exhaust soumds delicious without being obnoxious. The pics are from a ride yesterday (11/18/17) at the 'Tail of the Dragon', Deals Gap, TN. It was cool outside but the Superduke was plenty HOT with a gaggle of Rottweiler parts...!

I just noticed your 1290 has what looks like non-led stock indicators? Why is that? All the European 1290 have led indicators from the factory afaik.

Well, that's a great garage.

Superduke, Ducati and M// car for the rainy days ehehe
Nice collection you've got there!
I've got Ducati monster (796 I think) bars on mine, and haven't noticed difficulty in steering. Just a bit more weight over the front. Which to me makes the bike feel a bit more secure in fast corners. They're a bit lower than stock, but not as low as the lsl drag bars.

Could be body position indeed, if it doesn't work you could try a set of monster bars, they're sort of halfway between the lsl and the stock bars.

My grips are renthal dual compound:

The soft bit does wear quite quick though. But I really like em.

Purty. Very purty ... wanna do something like that myself instead of buying a $200 CF part.
Rode out to Treasure Island to take pics with my buddy who just picked up a super clean Duc-motard. I should get out there a few more times before they complete the tear down of all the old, abandoned buildings...already much different than my last trip a few years ago

NICE....
"Main Entry Point South Side" Sounds like a slogan fit for the area
All looks well with the R except for the tinted headlamp. There is a special look to dilapidation and it contrasts well with Super Motos
When I got back from work outside temp was a cool 6C but dry and sunny so...time to ride!Image
