my superduke after a run now and again drops an amount of coolant out of the breather pipe underneath the bike , i have filled the coolant expansion bottle between the lower and upper marks as it should be but the problem persists , met another guy with same bike and when i pulled up it did its trick and he casually said yeah mine does that now and again ! eh whats happening there then, it doesnt overheat at any time in fact cooling is great due to motobox fitment aiding air flow , so any feedback would help, maybe the rad wants bleeding maybe ?

#2Check that the rad cap is on properly and if it's not loose the only thing it could be is that you need a new cap.

#4yes, from time to time the fluid level will drop for no reason but not by much, and usually due to not bleeding the coolant system properly.
but i think it could be the water pump seal, these fail between 20 - 30thousand km's... not to hard to fix. A guy did a step by step set of instructions on the adventure forum. Not sure of the link though... so if someone here could help out with the link

#6p.s. mine's done it once, with only 8000 miles on the clock, so I hope it's not water pump failure. Probably just rad cap needs cleaning

#7TITS ! mines only done 7000 miles , hope its not the dreaded water pump ! or even the blown head gasket , ,oohh heck hope its the fact ive had the expansion tank off a few times and drained and refilled and buggered about taking rad cap off

If its the water pump bearing the coolent seeps through into the oil, so the coolent overflow bottle empties but you have no idea where the fluid is going! Your sounds like its dumping it out of the overflow underneith the bike?
Your 1st job should be to get it the cooling system properly bled and see what happens then!!!!

#10I have never seen mine loosing coolant, but very occasionally, I can smell a little coolant, and it's always been when the bike has ran really hot (either city traffic or a spirited long ride), I'm not too worried about it as it doesn't drop a lot.
However, from new, I had to keep topping up the coolant and didn't know where it went. They changed the waterpump seals under warranty, but screwed up first time (they seal failed after only 50 or so miles and the bike ran out of coolant, ending up with mayonaise oil). After they fixed the waterpump second time, the coolant has nearly stayed were it was (maybe dropped 2-5mm in a couple of thousand miles).
However, from new, I had to keep topping up the coolant and didn't know where it went.
