Strange Little PART - anyone know's where it goes ?

When i took that little electrical gizmo ( With the two screws ) off the top front of the stock airbox this little piece of metal showed up -

Anyone know where the hell that little thing goes - or did it just show up as an extra ? is it necessary ?
