Bloody freakin' 'ell.

OK, so lemme get this straight: the manual says my 07 SD has a 17 tooth sprocket, but it's really a 16 tooth damped, so there's no need to change the front sprocket, only the rear. The manual says it's a 42, no mention of damped/undamped/spaffed or otherwise. So, what do I really have on the rear hub, can I go to a 40, and why oh why is Bob my Uncle?
I've got an '07. My front from the factory was 16.

Your manual says your rear is 42? I'm pretty sure mine says 38 - which I counted to confirm.
