When there is a protest against anything that involves taking your number plate off and racing around on country lanes I will join in. Wasting 20 minutes of my life on a motorway at 45mph on a Sunday along with all the gimp bikers that herd like sheep to rallys, bike meets, fun runs. Most of whom are wobbly incompetents and resemble the stereotypical Bennetts biker. Just to be a mild inconvenience to thousands of motorists who couldnt give a toss about your cause and think you are the IAM invasion plus a few thousand Eastern European truckers who know you are riding along a hard shoulder they spend most evenings pissing on.

Goverments are looking for easy to implement cash generators .. Anything could happen . I dont want it to go like the trade skills scheme has with pointless tests every few years that cost you money for no good reason .They was quick enough to bring that in and they get a lovley stream of money for nothing .

I wasn't in it but I saw it! Coming westbound on the M4 from Bristol, probably passed a couple of hundred bikes going (slowly) eastwards.

I sympathise with the cause but I agree with Luke - a protest like that won't accomplish anything.

I reckon an effective protest has to do one or more of the following things:

1) Seriously impact normal running of the country/area. A good example would be the farmers' blockade of the fuel refineries. Granted, their ultimate aim wasn't really achieved, but they were headline news for days and scared the shit out of the government!

2) Capture the imagination by presenting a spectacle that is funny, interesting or makes a point in line with the subject being protested. Say what you like about Fathers for Justice, an out of shape middle aged Spiderman stuck halfway up Big Ben IS funny and will always find airtime on the "and finally" segment of the news if nothing else. The Anonymous internet collective versus Scientology is another good example.

I disagree with both of you. I think a real point was made! Thank God people are willing to get off their backsides and do something. Evil prevails when good men do nothing.
