Though choice if you never have had a SD.
But having a 120hp with high torque and similar seating position and won't be as much fun to downgrade.

#11I'd love the new 690smc but i know i just would'nt use it that often. I had the 625 smc but when the SDR came it just sat in the garage not getting used,so i ended up selling it sometimes i wish i had'nt though,it was a bloody good bike

#25I still have a 625 SMC it is not that different than the new 690 as a matter of fact mine is faster than a stock 690. The main difference in the new one is it is much smoother and seems to have a little more top end.
I could not imagine trading a SD or an SDR for one of these. It would be like pulling the V8 out of your race car and slipping a 4 banger in it. For it being safer on your license, The SMC is too much fun to wheelie and slide around corners. As someone said they are much better on gravel roads and that is the only place that it will have an advantage over a SD.
Good luck and I'll see you at the dealer within a year to get another SD.
