Oh lerarned ones, 2 questions if I may:

1. Is there any difference between an '08 and an '10 SDR? (apart from colour)
2. The Akropovic headers on the R, are they the same as the aftermarket ones? It seems the R ones need the splitter pipe with the silencers, while the aftermarket ones just need individual silencers? If different, is it a performance and or weight diff?

2. No, OEM akra is stainless I think, aftermarket akra down pipes are either stainless or Ti depends which you buy.

Not sure I follow what your on about with the splitter tho.

The "one into two section" seems to be part of the aftermarket header system. To replace the stock muffler on an R, requires this "splitter" (one into two) to be purchased as part of the "slip on cans" kit. Hence my concern re the claim of "Akropovic headers" being stock on the R. Might be Akropovic, but MAYBE second rate compared to an aftermarket full system.

i have the akro "genuine" SDR system on my bike and can assure you it is definitely NOT a second rate product! it is bigger in diameter, has thin walled stainless for construction and tuned length primary pipes, yes, you need the std type Y pipe which is on all the std systems, and yes, the much longer front primary that runs a long way forward makes oil changes a pain, but it looks awesome! and with the right mods will add power.
the aftermarket version has a shorter front primary which makes oil changes a breeze, is a smaller diameter and has a different Y pipe which require aftermarket mufflers, it comes in Ti or SS. take your pick, they're both akropovic, so they're both expensive! my SDR system has genuine part numbers and the akro logo etched into the pipes so technically it's legal.

08-10 sdr is the same ..almost sure some1 will know they have changed a bolt or a plug type but its not changed in basic terms.

The akra larger headers are stainless but in essence they are a good product developed to give the motor what it needs due to the hike in power and gas flow, the point right up to the joint with the end cans is the same on an 07-10.
The akra end cans come with the 'Y' peice / splitter as do many of the other suppliers for the SD with the fitting / mounting compatable with both the 07 std and the later std or SDR.

My akra cans i had on my std 07 model have been swaped onto my late 08SDR ..pipe sizes match and joint fits perfectly with no step down in bore.

Hope this helps, if you want to spend the money the aftermarket ti exhaust has a diffrent connection to the 'y' peice and is not a mix and match with the standard or SDR system.

Don't the later SDRs also have a "Slipper clutch"? My 2011/09 spec has.
