Superduke to Supermoto

Hi,

I keep finding myself toying with the idea of selling the Duke to get a Supermoto.. The question i keep asking myself is would i regret changing?? has anyone else jumped from one to the other? any advise would be welcomed.

What size supermoto? Which bike takes your fancy?

I am taking a liking to the Aprilia SXV or the Honda CRF 450, I would like to do a bit of off roading from time if given the chance.

I went from dirt to supermoto to the superduke. If you plan in doing a lot of open roads, freeway or day to day commuting stick with the superduke. If you want straight hooligan hard to keep your license go for the supermoto. Both would be best. I plan on getting another exc.

I did it the other way round. I had a KTM 640 supermoto for hooning about London. In 4 years I achieved a constant total of 9 points on my license for the whole duration - I was always only one more penalty away from a driving ban. Each time one dropped off I got another. The Supermoto makes you ride like a total fool with no regard for the law, speeding or sense. It's fantastic! But it' s a terrible bike for open roads and any speeds over 80mph really. Vibrates so bad that your hands are always numb. And it runs out of puff very quickly. Superduke is a much, much better bike for nearly everything else. But I would have another like a shot if I could justify having another commuter bike to get to work on through the traffic and pot holes. Best London bike ever invented - easily.

I only use my bike for weekend use, i take it being on 9 points at the moment isnt the best... I thought a naked would slow me down but the duke seemed to make me worse, i cant help it, the bikes made for fun.. i was kinda hoping a supermoto would slow me down giving me less chance of gaining more points, i take it im wrong....

how did you rate the KTM Supermoto? any others you have tried and tested?

I have an EXC 520 in supermoto trim as well as the superduke.
If one bike had to go, it would be the SM.
The SM is huge huge fun. Most fun you can have on a little bike, but it's a little bike. Not comfortable, 200 mile oil change intervals, not suited for open roads or longer trips etc etc.

The morale is, you really need both Instead of getting an SXV ($$$$$ in running cost), get yourself a cheap EXC and keep the SD

I am looking at adding a supermoto to my garage, but it will be an addition and not replacing my Superduke. I would look towards things like the LC4 powered KTMs or a SMR610 husky. These tend to have reasonable maintenance schedules, where the SXV etc are very maint heavy.

^ Dead wrong, dude.... If you ride the SD like it wants to be ridden, you're lucky making it home without a ticket.

If you ride a supermoto like it wants to be ridden, you'll be lucky to not lose your license. They are silly fun....

Looking at the general feedback it sounds like the supermoto is not such a good idea for wanting to keep a licence. I guess it may slow you down top end but more fun around town. I only cover around 4000 miles a year so servicing isnt that bad i guess.

I have a husky 610 sm and love it around town, nothing is as fun in an urban environment imo. But i wanted something for longer rides out in the country and whatnot, and the 610 can get annoying on long rides. Thats why i bought the SD. Im not selling the 610 though.

when you put it like that, thats alot of hassel that im not sure is worth it, im not that much of a hands on person and tend to pay for things to be done. its not that im bored with the Superduke at all, its bags of fun i just fancy a change.. supermoto style being what i seem to fancy. more research is required. Anything anyone could suggest?
