Well I test rode both....I'm currently shopping. I prefered the seating position of the Duke over the Triple...at little more upright and more leg room (I'm 6-1). I also noticed the extra weight of the Triple during the slower parts of the test run....which I kept to a minimum Still both bike were easy to throw around and a blast to ride. I had a Ducati so I'm a little bias towards twins anyway. I also like the looks of the Duke more. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I agree with all that's been said. They're both great bikes, the trumpet is perhaps a bit more practical in terms of off the peg accessories (luggage, seats, etc.). It's also a bit softer on the throttle and handling feels a bit more stable, inspires confidence as soon as you get on the thing. It feels quite heavy in comparison to the SD, and the bars feel further forward and lower. The engine is bloody good, really nice to ride fast or slow.

The superduke is more flickable, packs more of a punch on the throttle, meaning you can still get a thrill of riding it without going silly speeds. You don't get the option of decent luggage or touring type stuff without having a bit of a look around first, but there are plenty of cool little bits to spend money on! It just seems a little bit more hilarious to ride. Don't know how to put this, to me the triumph feels like a normal motorcycle, while the KTM feels like someone's stuck a V-twin into a BMX frame.

Both are great bikes, try them both as they're pretty different, comes down to personal preference. The fact I bought a KTM shows which I liked best

I last owned a 1050 Speed Triple ( for 3 years), best "ROAD" engine on any bike, open the throttle in any gear and it's never ending. The only reason I changed for the Superduke was build quality. Having also owned the 955 model before, (which was not too bad) the 1050 (which was lovingly cared for) decided too slowly degrade. The fuel filler cap bubbled up with corrosion, rear footpeg hangers went shit (poor laquoring), rear wheel bubbled and the front brakes were legendry for the lever coming back to the bars.Luckily Triumph are customer friendly, and mine was all eventually sorted, but the brake problem was sorted out on the 06/07 bikes I believe.
The final straw was when cleaning it last year I noticed a large area of paint bubbling on the lower near side engine casing. I thought it was a good idea to trade it in before someone knocked me down for the engine painting, plus it was almost due for an M.O.T a large service and road tax.

Thank the lord for demo-ing the Superduke, I got a brand new 07 model on an 08 plate with money off and was given a nice alowance on the Speed Triple.
I miss that bike, but a bumpy surface would leave it trailing a superduke.
And if money were no option, I think I would like another one just for old times sake
I owned a Speed Triple 1050 2005 for 2 years, and loved it. The sound is music with Arrow's
Two con's: The front brakes are rubbish Even after revision (guarantee) the lever keeps meeting the bar after a while, so I always had to bleed them after some riding.
And for track use the springs/damping are much too soft. I had some rework done with HyperPro springs and thicker oil, but I couldn't stop the wobbling in very fast corners.
After a while you get used to it and then it's fast on the track
My first ride with the SD still has to come, including track use

I owned a 2004 955 SpeedTriple. I wrote it off (first crash in 25 years!) and bought a 2008 SD.

Speaking very personally the S3 pros are: engine, brand, mono swing arm. Cons: heavy, average suspension (needs straight rate springs in forks as a minimum), cheap levers and other bits'n'bobs, some doubt about brakes (under pressure mine leaked fluid past the master cylinder until the lever came back to the bar, but '08 supposed to be OK), '05 on have stupid instruments and ugly exhaust which costs $3k to replace.

SD pros: Light ( very light once you lose the exhaust "safe"), terrific WP suspension, looks great, kraut build quality with radial everything. Cons: Hunting at cruise, engine only 80% as good as S3, cost, high exhaust will mean I need a Ventura for Phillip Island run.
