I wanted some tank grip pads for the SD and didn't see a ton of stuff out there for it. Although I didn't look that hard. I didn't want something as aggressive as StompGrip for street. Plus I didn't think they'd look that good on the SD. But I really wanted some grip on the tank. So I picked up something from TechSpec. I was ordering some dirt bike stuff online and though I'd pick these up at the estore and see what I thought.
Nothing specific for the SD so I bought a generic pad and cut it myself. I like the grip quality of the material enough. The adhesive on the pad could be a little better. It would actually peel off the back of the pad if you weren't careful about getting your fingers on it. You want to get them on straight the first time because I got the feeling if you tried to peel them off even right after applying them the adhesive would stick to the tank and peel off the pad. Once on though they feel solid.
I'm okay enough with how they look. I wasn't expecting artwork from a fairly quick "do it yourself" job. The edges look home made but not bad for hacking them up with a utility knife. I need to cut some smaller ones for the lower part of the tank where my knees press against but I'll get to that later. Right now the upper part of my thigh rests on the very bottom of the pad. If you were to hang off like at the track your thigh (mine at least) would be right in the center of the pad.
Anyway here are some pics. You can view a few more pics in the album here:
