Test road a SD on Saturday and I have some questions...

#2my clutch is fine perhaps its had a hard life as a demo bike? wind blast i dont feel on my sdr at 80mph over 100mph then i do but thats the fun of a naked bike IMO the screen stops about 30% of the wind but boy does it look ugly once fitted removed mine and will only fit when going on a trip away.

#3When i picked up my new 07 SD i jumped off my old GSXR and straight onto the SD. I noticed the clutch as soon as i set off but it was a combination of tall first gear and V Twin as well. By the time i had ridden it home i had pretty much forgoten about it. Never bothered me since.
As for the wind, well i agree it is bad on the SD. My mate rides an FZ1 and that is naked with no screen and it has less wind buffeting than my SD even with the touring screen on. The FZ1 riding position is slightly more forward but not much so i can only think it has to do with the design of the front area overall.

#4I've had my 08 SD for a few months now and love it. As said before the 1st gear is quite high and combined with the V twin torque shudder at low revs can feel a little aggresive on take off however give it more revs and a smooth lever action and it is not a problem at all. The SD is not like a jap bike that you can ride along sedately and expect a quiet smooth ride, it will punish you, but actually RIDE the bike with enthusiasm and it will reward you .. you wont get the grin off your face!.
I have the KTM touring screen and dont mind the look of it at all, it takes some of the wind off the chest area and still pretty buffet free over the helmet if you sit fairly upright ( I'm 5'9), if i lean foward to balance the wind draft at over 120 kmh or about 70 mph i think, then there is a little helmet buffeting, but they are pretty cheap and you can swap them in five miutes so give it a try.

#5The clutch control is normal...you will get used to it. I do a LOT of city riding in central London and it's no bother at all for me....fine control is possible and my left hand doesnt get too stiff on the commute.
As for the wind blast, all my bikes have been nakeds so I dont know much different.....130mph feels damned fast! Better to get that hit at that speed or 90mph rather than 180mph! (if you know what I mean). This bike is about cornering, not motorways....so dont worry about the wind blast, get used to it....or ride less motorways.
It'll eat the SV for a light snack between meals mate!

#7It sounds like someone has burned the clutch on that SD and now it only functions when it is completly released. I would try another SD. There is a tall 1st gear so you really do need to be able to slip the clutch when you ride in the city or traffic. I can tell you that I do not have that problem you are describing. I can engage my clutch slowly just like it needs to.
On the matter of windblast. You will get used to it. It takes a couple of rides and few more hairs on your chest but eventually you get used to it. I suggest you get the "touring" screen. It keeps the gust of winds from hitting your chest and pushing you back. The rest of the wind will relieve the pressure on your hands when you lean forward. Yeah how long could you ride your SV650? Try it on the SD and see how when you get off you will think... "hm.. that was nothing"
