The Decline of available Carbon Fiber

Hi Guys: Listen to this
I went online and ordered a list of carbon parts from KTM Cyclehut, I payed instantly and 1.5 weeks past with no confirmation from them. So i decided to call them and ask. They said to me "Sorry about the delay but the carbon parts have been discontinued. Now im thinking when were you going to tell me. Anyway i cancelled my order and was assured i would be refunded right away. Two days pass and no refund, time for another phone call. "OH the person that handles our paypal is out to lunch, let me call you back" Hours later i receive that phone call and was assured that i was refunded in the morning, so i check my email and at 2:09pm and found that is the time my refund was processed. WTF

Now thats just the first place i went looking for these carbon pieces.
I have visted at least 10 sights, i've called a couple dealers, i have even called KTM North America. I'm getting the same damn answer. Sorry we don't have it.

BEWARE : KTM HAS DISCOUNTED THEIR CARBON PARTS FOR THE SUPERDUKE UP TO 2010.

Guys I'm frustrated. are there any carbon parts available in Europe?
Does anyone want to sell any carbon parts?

The Superduke is no longer sold in the US. No profit..?

I remember when that new huge plane was launched (380 airbus??????) the manufacturers bought up ALL the raw carbon fibre available to make their parts. Not sure if that's the reason ?

I have bought nearly all my carbon bits over the last four years from EBay by just waiting patiently for the bits to come up. But it's a very slow process In the UK a very reliable and fast service for KTM Hardparts is Gear4. Not sure if they ship to the States.

But I also just ordered some headlight cowls from here - this is a new line of products from a German company, not KTM parts but they look good quality and a lot cheaper. Will post my view on quality when they arrive - should be some time next week.

Some of them are available here in Swedenland still.

However, I'm not impressed at all by the OEM carbon. Bought the clutch and engine cover protectors, and the fit was a bleeping joke. Ended up going with Rizoma parts instead.

Thanks for the info. I'm checking overseas dealers that were mentioned. Hopefully I can piece together the bits.

KTM Versand in Germany was very helpful in getting a white SDR plastic set for my bike, so they would probably be good to try for carbon parts as well. I contacted several European retailers since KTM USA wouldn't import the parts, and KTM Versand was the most helpful with pretty quick delivery via DHL considering the distance.

I knew it would happen, Bic has bought up the world's carbon stockpile. I think it was carbon wrapping his house that did it

Just what part's we talking here noticed that the tank panels are a no go now (got mine half price ) and the battery cover (don't want),,,fenders still available,,,,seat cowl,,the cheap case guards ,you don't want either, same with that leaky tank,,,what's left

What I am looking for is the front panels. Rear end panels, lower spoiler.
Only one rear panel is available. What good is one panel.
Are there Any carbon bits in New England Mad dog?

I have the triangle pieces that go on the air box still in the package if you want those. I wonder if you contacted Akropovic if they would have the pieces. My CF front fender says Akro on it.

All the KTM catalogue carbon kit is actually made by Acrapovic. But they don't badge everything, only the front mudguard.

I feel sorry for you guys over there if the carbon supply is running out. There must be plenty of Euro suppliers who are willing to ship to the States though?

I'm going to scour Europe for other parts.

Had thought that fenders and such are still available,,, the battery box I never really wanted as it would get pelted with stones and other road debris,, so I bought a couple of stockers that I've graphicd out differently,, Ive dealt with a carbon supplier in CA that made me some heel plates , actualy they were made in China but the quality is high IMO, sent off a spare set of headlight mask wings and the stock windscreen to be replicated as well,, theve been making moulds with the stock bits I send em so I assume they will be available on e-bay sometime soon,, may see if they will tackle a battery box fabrication,,,I do have a spare set of seat panels that Im sure they would do up too,, but I have the black set installed now, so Im looking for a "beat up" set to send off to them, any color,,,and I've never had any problems getting things from over the pond, just do a contact via E mail and go from there,, shop around though, low price and shipping cost that works for you,, all my local shops never had anything in stock and had to order everything,,, Cycle Hut was my venue for carbon bits, everything was on sale a couple of years ago around Christmas,,,

Just got my new headlight cowls and fly-screen from HF Carbon parts in Germany. Only took three days to arrive so very good service. Quality looks great - hold my final judgement to see if they they fit without any hassle but first impressions positive. All the internal fitting details seem to be there and are well put together.

Hi Bic: please take a pic when you install them.. And you find the fitment is not good, is there a return policy?

Just grabbed a few hours to fit the new CF headlight cowls and fly screen.

They are good carbon and resin quality and the fit is reasonable bar a few frustrating points. The fly screen fits perfectly. The two headlight cowls both have the same issues. The mounting points for the attachment screws are in the correct position but they are fixed to the inside of the CF panels with a hand applied fillet of resin. This has been over applied so that the diameter of the tube is too big, in places, for them to fit into the corresponding sunken holes in the headlight shell halves. Ten minutes of finishing with a file sorts it out but it's not what you'd expect from an after market part.

But the worst bit is that the holes in all five mounting points are too big for the large self tapping screws. The way I remedied this was to fill them all with chemical metal and before it set hard I screwed in all the screws after coating the threads with Vaseline. Sorted it all out but added another half hour to what should have been a quick 20 minute fitting job.

Anyway, completed mask looks good for all you Carbon lovers out there. They also do a complete one-piece carbon cowl for the '07 onwards model if you fancy that option rather than replacing the panels separately. Not sure how all the mounting points and hinge points will be on this option though.
