Had a chain let go on me, with the following damage (see pics). Doing approx 120 km/hand backed off when it happened, had a bit of a bang and luckily it fed out on the road.
Chain was about 12 months old and had about 5k km on it and a few wheelies.
Fairly lucky this was all the damage done, front sprocket area escaped with no damage at all.
Anyone pulled apart an Akro can before? Need to pull the end off to try and get the dent out.

That is a pretty unusual sight in these modern times. I have had a total of three chain malfunctions but they were all 30 years or more ago.

The damage could have been worse of course but I'd still be pretty pissed about it. Have you tried to contact the supplier/manufacturer ? Probably not much chance of them coughing up for damages but they might give you another ( suspect ) chain. What brand was the chain ?
Glad you're OK.

These guys sell akra repair parts, or at least they used to. http://www.ktmtwins.com/990superduke/exhaust.html

Some on here have taken their cans apart to repack them, but I can't find the threads (still haven't figured out how to use the new search). Hopefully they will post. Not complicated if I remember right.
Unlucky fella. What make was the chain?
lucky and unlucky at the same time... iv seen a chain take someones calf clean off through their leathers
Fooking Hell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was the make and size?
That is scary!
Be sure to contact the manufacturer.
(And keep us posted on their reaction)
I had the chain fitted last time I had it serviced, it's 525 X-ring but has no manufactures mark on it at all. If it was an RK, DID or the likes it would be marked. It wasn't cheap at around $200 and it had really good wear having only needed to adjust it once in the last 12 months. My feeling is I got a Chinese chain at a Japanese price. The service place is no longer in existence so I have little to fall back on.

Caveat emptor.
