#6All I can say is that Mr. Rapp must be a true nutter. Streets of Willow is a 1.75 mi track. Its a very tight track with only two very short straight sections. The rest of the track is a myriad of tight turns, elevation changes, and of course, the 20 degree inclined "bowl." You can tell that this is not an easy track to traverse at high speeds, even in a car, by watching the the amount of effort the Ferrari driver is exerting. For Mr. Rapp to average 79.4 mph over that course is truly remarkable.
Would the Atom beat the bike on that track? I really don't know. But remember, the commentator says, at the end of the clip, that the Ferrari was the all time fastest car around that track. But, I don't know if they ever tested an Atom there.

#8the ferrari 458 and the atom 500 is like comparing the 458 with an enzo FXX... the ferrari is a great road car but it is not designed to do what the atom and the FXX can.

#9Bike style power to weight with a bigger contact patch at each corner - it's a tough package to beat on 2 wheels.

#10The Atom is an awesome car and was winning 0-100-0 tests against bikes and other cars long before the latest more powerful one and the BMW were on Top Gear.
I agree with Pete, it can brake harder, put the power down easier and has downforce to give it even more grip in the corners, it's a bike killer.
Still gets stuck in traffic though
The ferrari is not even a close comparison to it but was nice to see it tested against the Ducati in its own right.

#11I love Atoms! Always have , always will
I also love Top Gear (though only for its humour)
But the fact still remains that,
1.the new V8 Atom is £120k and as close as you can get to a legal lightweight racecar on the road!
2. Top Gears test track is probly in worse condition than Darley Moor
3. They wouldnt let Brogen use his proper race bike (and were only talking an Evo Class Superbike here, not a full-on Superbike)
4. As with everything Top Gear does its always rigged
Read any road tests on the new Atom and the huge power increase has come at the cost of handling, it no longer goes round corners like the old car and huge understeer has set in ( i presume from the extra weight??)
Unfortunatly, we will never no for sure and the chances of ever coming across 1 are pretty limited - theyre only building 25
