Think I'm leaving...

Well sort of. Took an RC8R out for a thrash on Saturday.It was proper fast on the back roads here.... As in, send you back in time fast...bit hard on the bum compared to the SD and the mirrors are the most pointless ever fastened to a motorcycle..... but did I mention the speed? The unbelievably massive velocities, that I thought were only theoretically attainable...I am now five years younger than I was on Saturday morning.
Having faffed over buying a Streetfighter, there is to be no such gayness this time. I'm 'aving it.
Just dunno if I should trade in my SD or put it up for private sale. Yes, yes, I know, ideally I should keep them both, but I simply can't afford to do that...

I may be leaving SD ownership, but I think I'll be lingering on the forum like a rancid fart. This is the best forum there is. Totally enjoyed it and the banter and the knowledge and the friendship and all of that good stuff, so I'm not goin' anywhere...
Besides, if I win the lottery I'll buy another SD to go with the RC8...

A lot of what we learn here is quite often applicable to the RC8 too so definitely no reason to leave, besides we welcome all members whether they still have their SD or not.

I guess bikes are a like being unfaitfull.

You may look at other bikes but not always want a go, and sometimes you may want another, but you have to decide if you can have get rid of your older model or see if you can afford to run both

But always at the back of your mind you know that the older model always knew how to please you best, it may be prettier or more lithe but your older model just knew what you liked in that department


Having said I that I say do it, because having done it myself I can really appreciate how GOOD the SD really is.

TBH the RC8 has a really odd riiding position.

You sit in it, and it's not very bad on wrists or your neck. It's really quite impressive in that department.

Good work fella, i think most of us understand why the R has tempted you. I'd love to ride one, i had a coupla hours on the original RC8 and it was nice but not as exciting as i hoped...i reckon the R probably woops the old one big time.

Out of interest, what dealer are you using? KTM centre?

Just remember you can ride the SD at 100% but the RC8 (although luverly) you will only ever ride it whilst not using all of it ( unless your gonna do track days).......... me thinks when the 1200 SD rears its head you will be back...

Just for clarification guys, I did indeed take the RC8R out for a test drive, but it's actually a boggo ordinary RC8 that I'm buying. I know it doesn't have all the shunt of the R, but its still got plenty for me.
Got a very good deal on it too. From Premier Bikes in Didcot. It's a black one. Pick it up on the 22nd...which also happens to be my birthday. I'll be 105.

As long as they arent raping you I would say trade the SD. They dont seem to make much more than trade money on e bay. Just return it to standard and sell all the goodies on here.

Anytime you need the 08 RC8's, too hard launch model, suspension fettled or your preload starts to unwind itself just come on down. TJ and I are now experts (in that, we have made all the mistakes humanly possible already) and compared to the other KTM technicians within 20 miles of my front door we are KTM guru's.

We can turn it around in about a night and a half and you can be stomping squirrels by torchlight whilst we do it.

At this rate we will have to change the name of the Forum

I have avoided the issue...by not taking up Cresent ( now selling KTM's) offer of a test ride.....sooooo tempted
