I enjoy getting other SD owners perspectives on their bikes...their knowledge and general BS chat that goes with being an owner of a nutter bike.

This forum has been a wealth of information for me. If I had one wish though it would be for an ignore button.

Love the forum, including most of the banter. Some of it is painful but easy enough to skip past. (The "mark all forums read" feature in the upper right is nice). Not sure how we could control excess banter without, on balance, losing more than we gain. As an example, and not to single him out for derision, Joe posts a ton of stuff. I do not understand some of it, but in his lucid moments he has been very helpful to me.

I agree with Dr F on the "Other KTM Models" section, but have to admit I've read all the RC8 posts.

I like the new crashes section. Any suggestions for other sections?

A few more stickies on common issues for new people would be good (e.g. sas, evap canister and perhaps others that are not covered by Gregz list).

It seems there are very few vendors of after market parts specific to the SD. A place for people to post links to good suppliers might be good. (Maybe only useful to North American members?)

I'm of only average (at best) mechanical inclination. I would love it if there were a way for people to attach longer documents with detailed steps to projects they have done. (Maybe that already is possible and I am ignorant. Also, given how busy people are it may be a stillborn idea).

Wish it was easy to put pictures in posts (maybe it is but I haven't figured it out).

One man's meat is a another man's poison. We are all united on this forum through the love of the supeduke. However, not everyone has the same sense of humour, a question regarding chains/tyres/luggage is not necessarily an excuse for half a dozen posts regarding the merits of one colour or another. That said, there are the relevant sections to post different questions or items in. I think all of us have an interest in KTM to one degree or another, the other model sections have an interest, but do not dillute what this forum is about.
Perhaps we do not realise how lucky we are, the last forum I had any interest in for bikes was RSVR.Net, there was precious little banter on there, it was all 'My bikes broke, what can I do?' etc.
Personally, I think the balance is about right. I've read this twice and nearly pressed delete, but it is what I think. Empathy is what it is all about. Probably change my mind tomorrow.

I came across the forum on a superduke search and founds lots of great info which is mostly what I use the forum for, as soon as I got my bike I knew to get a 16 tooth and disconnect the gear sensor, I would not have known that any other way, what ever fad im into to I like to try and read up on it and gain the knowledge (although not always being able to put it into practise), I love bikes and love my superduke and although im not the most technical.

I dont religiously read every thread and often skip over some peoples posts as im sure people do my mine, you know who to listen to and who not to.

Like most people I have a sense of humour and enjoy the light hearted banter id rather it be about the colour of your bike than slagging matches which I have seen on some forums, I certainly find this a "gentlemans forum" went on visor down once thought it was sh*t, f-ing Police this f-ing Police that, blah blah blah waste of time.

I prefered it with less sections to be honest as I did not have to scroll down on the home page, I prefered when it was just Superduke, if I get another bike I will stop posting and find another forum for that bike.

So in a nutshell, I skip the posts I dont want to read, im on here pretty much every day but dont always post, I enjoy the site as it is but at the end of the day you cant make everyone happy.

I think cjc's idea of more sticky's is top one, everybody can then revert to a topic and add to it, eg, Akra's, loads of posts but I end up forgeting half of them and then have to try and find it by looking though loads of different posts.
Only other thing that I notice is different sense of humour. some people take things as read, but the same thing happens when you vist a forigen country,the Brits and Ozies have the same type of dry wit where as the Yanks wear it on there chest and we will always clash, it doesn't help that none of us are face to face, other than that I think this is possibly the worst forum I have subscribed to, so piss off

Well Honestly I had expected to be cut wide open by now, that was exercised by a skillful instrument held in a secret place by those that know themselves.

personally I find this forum fun, just like I like bikes, I think the ignore button suggestion is a good one cos I know that...

I do get on peoples nerves, as I also have this type of steely sharp instrument meself.

Lots of good ideas in the posts above. Not wanting to diss anyone but here are my thoughts on a few of them.....

An 'ignore' button? Hmmm. Not one in this version of PHPBB but we may migrate onto V3.0 soon (maybe) and there may be more options on that??

Other models. I understand where these comments come from and agree in part. The other models were added as a separate section for those who own/want to know about them. Yes I agree they water down the site a bit. However they allow SD owners the option to talk about other KTMs without having to register on other forums. Maybe I'm wrong on this but I think this is preferable to not having them.

More stickies.... Good idea. Maybe we could go one further and have a FAQ section?? We would need a volunteer to keep a list of subjects and link to the various threads from there. The reason I say this is that stickies are just that...they stay at the top. too many and the new posts would become lost. Just my opinion, though.

Attaching documents is a do-able. Save the document in HTML, Word of PDf format (etc) on a hosting site and pop in a link to it in your threads.

Adding pix. Again this is easy (if you know how). You can either link to an image on t'interweb or save an image on a hosting site (e.g. photobucket) and link to that. Remember that images bigger than about 800x600 will not be easy to view on posts so please try to resize them (ditto, file size as there are still members on dial up and a 2 MB photo can take ages to download). Unfortunately there is no way in this version of PHPBB to link a picture from the gallery into a thread. Why?? who knows!!!

Lots of good ideas as I said. As DR F rightly says no-one owns the site (well actually Someone owns it - member #1) so let's try to please as many as we can and not piss people off too much.

That said I like the forum just the way it is and hope nobody takes offense at others' posts. If they do then we as moderators are here to delete offensive material (porn, personal attacks, racism, etc), but we try to do so without infringing members' freedom of speech.

Wow, I had no idea that my comment would provoke a new thread!

My feelings on this forum are somewhat bi-polar.

On the positive side, the owner reviews and feedback were instrumental in getting me to quit waiting on my HM-S and go for the SD instead, and for that I'm very grateful! The pics, technical resources, and helpfulness of everyone here is much appreciated as well.

On the negative side, I could do w/o ever reading about the fastest color again, it's old and played out by now. I suspect at least one frequent poster (I won't mention names) is wasted &/or too busy trying to write like a brit - all too often I find myself scratching my head trying to interpret what he's trying to convey. Lastly, even though English is the primary language here, there are enough regional differences in vocabulary and humor that much of it can be lost if you're non-local to the poster's country.

Here's what I'd like to see:
- keep topics in the right forum, and hopefully limit the threadjacks
- create a user control panel so you can subcribe to and view only the forums you're interested in viewing - this way, you could have an RC8 forum, and I could hide it. (I'm all for KTM dirt bike discussions, though)
- create regional forums, which can be used for rides, get togethers, and for sale listings - I'm not likely to buy something from 1/2 way around the world.
- as mentioned, create stickies or an FAQ for the most popular topics, i.e. cannister removal, PC III maps, etc. Maybe even a library of how to articles (idea stolen from caymanclub.net)

Thanks for asking, this is my $.02. I'll still be around either way, but the forums would be more usable to me w/ the above enhancements.

A few people have asked for direct posting of picture to the forum. The problem with this is the physical memory size required by the site to store what could be thousands of pictures. This is why we have to use third party photo hosts like photobucket ect, they are free to join and use and a simple copy and paste is all thats needed to put your pics in your posts.
