Thoughts on Mid Pipe/ Slip On

So, I've seen a few posts about Mid Pipes and/or Slip Ons. I am looking for weight reduction, and a better sound. Will a mid pipe alone serve this purpose?
I've listened to way too may youtubes of slip ons and full systems. And lets face it, audio quality from camera phones aren't "reference standard". Anyone have a some feedback?
