Topgear BMW versus Ariel Atom

Heard this was on Top gear tonight, missed the very beginning because I was reading my daugher a bedtime story. "Alens stole my underpants"
Then have just sat through 50 minutes of the most boring tosh - about Skodas, Porsche 911s etc. only for the programme to come to a close without a mention of a BMW track thing.

So did I miss it at the beginning?

Checking BBCi player now but other wise I feel ripped off.

It was obviously rigged, I didn't expect any different though.

Just watched it on BBCi Player. Hmmmmm. Disappointing wasn't it? Not the result - but the total lack of enthusiasm or information about the bike or what it actually offered. No mention of the comparison in price between the £100,000 Atom and an over the counter £12,000 bike. A load of bollox. I'll return to not watching Top gear anymore, I went off it years ago anyway.

If you're the kind of person that might watch top gear and see a bike going faster than a car and then decide you should get that bike then you probably shouldn't be on a bike!
I like that the average car driver doesn't know or understand about bikes (apart from the SMIDSY aspect of it obviously). Its nice to be part of something relatively exclusive. Would you really want motorcycling to be popularised by the likes of Top Gear?
We all know Clarkson hates bikes and is a knob but he is an entertaining one, most of the time.
Anyway, Top Gear stopped being a programme about cars and motoring a long time ago....
I thought the show last night was quite entertaining

Well, top gears all about cars and showing how superior they are, and we have to face it, a super powerful car set up by people mwith A levels with always corner faster and harder that a motorcycle with the same power to weight ratio. The 4 wheel platform is inherently more stable....but...
You can have a dozen S1000's for the price of one Atom, none of them will get stuck in traffic, they'll cost a fraction of the Atom's running costs, on real roads they will be able to overtake whre the Atom can't and won't get stuck in traffic. On anything except a race track the S1000 will always be faster. Looks like it can carry more luggage too.

So now you've all seen the show, had I have been on a Honda fireblade I'd have beaten the atom........ Ha ha just kiddin Topgear asked my team to bring my race bike, an when they saw it they said, we've changed our minds can you ride the road bike instead topgear couldn't be that stupid an let a bike beat the fastest car ever around there own track !! It was all good fun though

Obviously staged as on the approach to the second to last corner you see the rider motion for the Atom to take him on the inside.

Still like Top Gear though, one of the best shows on TV as far as I'm concerned. Waaayyyyy better than the newly released US version.
